Using DE

What is the proper way to use DE .How is it applied, how much and how often ?

Every time I clean the coop I sprinkle a thin layer on the floor and well into the corners & crevasses. I mix equal parts of sand, ash & DE for their dust baths. It is quite dusty so I wear a face mask and make sure the coop is well ventilated when sprinkling on the floor. I only use Food Grade DE which is labeled pet safe. I also put a thin layer in the bottom of the nesting boxes and toss with the shavings.
