using Diotome flour on baby chicks and ducklings?

Curious because their itching bad.I have saw many preening (Well all.)I spreaded it on their floor,but have never aquired it on them with my bare hands.It is known to be safe,but also can be eated (well a certain kind.)
 
It's safe in that it can be eaten. But it is decidedly unsafe for their (and your) lungs.

It is normal for them to feel tichy as they shed and grow the various fuzz and feathers as they grow up. {Provide them with a generous dust bath made mostly of fine dry soil. Include wood ash in it if you have it. Hopefully you will not have to treat for lice/mites if they have wood ash available.
