Using Last Year's Starter

Is it ok to use last years starter feed for this years chicks? I have about 10 lbs left but I don't want to make the chicks sick. I have to run to the feed mill to pick up more but if I could put if off for a day or two that would great.

If it's more than three or four months old I'd go get fresh feed unless it's been stored inside the house or something where it was drier than it would be in an otherwise not climate controlled storage area.

I doubt it would make them sick, but I've read that feed starts losing it's nutrient value quickly. So I'd think it would have lost a LOT of it's nutrient value. I wouldn't use it myself.

If it were me I wouldn't use it exclusively but mix a small amount in with some fresh feed for awhile to use it up. Shouldn't hurt anything but it might be a little 'stale'. Mixing it in, they probably won't know the difference and you won't be wasting it.
