Using pellets as bedding?

I am trying pellets on the bottom and a layer of shavings on the top. MY hope is the liquidy stuff will drain to the bottom in the pellets, and the shavings will help take care of the solids.
I'm just gonna add more layers ontop of various poop piles each day to help the smell. We plan on mucking it out once a week and re bedding it, unless it can go longer...

I used Horse pellets for my pen and I worked great! I guess it depends on how many ducks are in the cage and how smelly it gets. I cleaned mine out daily.

Pellets aren't meant to be stripped out weekly. That would make them not cost effective at all. I use them everywhere except nest boxes (pine shavings there). Brooder, coop, horse stalls. Soon to use it in goat house. I prefer the roost droppings to sit where I can see them and scoop them up. It's not any less dirty if you can't see it. (Although we sure keep that in mind if buying carpet or furniture...

The only place you see it accumulate is under the roosts. I have found that the initial expense more than pays for itself. Less time stripping out stalls and coop. Less in the manure pile. Less storage space and packaging and it just seems healthier to me. It's neater and stays where it should. IMO

i've put a layer of pellets down to collect up any of the more liquid waste... I put a layer of shavings on top and cover up any icky spots each night. My nest box is super clean, i think they only lay their eggs in there then hang out in the run. I've have the in there for about 4 or 5 days since i finished it and have no smells...
