My girls just started laying 3 days ago, but she is just laying them in the bottem of the coop> Will she eventually use the nesting box?

put some golf balls or fake eggs in there to "train" then to lay in the boxes.

The two at the top are wooden eggs I ordered online

My hens use to lay in a nesting box and then for some reason decided to build little nests on the coop floor and began laying there. I can't tell you why but for me it isn't a problem. The only reason I can come up with is that I keep the bedding in my coop very clean, thick and fluffy and I figured they must like it better. The funny thing is that the three of them always use the same "nest". Good luck.

I have 3 wooden eggs that i put in the nesting boxes but they roll them out into the coop. We just added a ledge to the boxes so they cant roll them out but this morning there wasnt a egg so I put one egg back in the coop and when I returned home there was another egg, go figure. I will put it back in the nest and see what happens tomorrow>:)javascript:insert_text('

We placed porcelain eggs in two of the nesting boxes and that is were they started laying, except for one hen. She lays her eggs in the trash can that holds the hay. It is outside the coop, but inside the run. Considering adding more nesting boxes with lots more hay in them for her.
