So I wanted to ask what you thought about this...
It would normally go in the 'farm equipment' section of threads, but I don't see a category for that.
To give you some back ground, we repaired our garage this year. But before that every year for the last 5 years, we didn't want to reroof it yet because it was a cheap really old 60 years old garage that wasn't seen from the street anyway. It was mostly in the back of the house. So there wasn't much reason to invest in it also, because it was so old.
So we'd put a tarp on it every year.
And every year these plastic whatever Walmart tarps would actually dissolve in the sun somewhere between 8 months and 11 months. This was quite amazing to see, because it would happen very suddenly and all at once with the threads all just collapsing at once. It seemed odd that one day it would look fine, and the next day its completely GONE. And this would happen every year.
So here's where my question comes into play;
If these plastic hybrid and other materials of tarps dissolve so fast, then how long would tent material last for if it was really being used, or needed to be relied on?
I hope it wouldn't just collapse and die in the sun like the tarps...but I have to assume its possibility.
But maybe some of the rest of you might have a better idea about this?
And because we all use tarps in farming and agriculture its reasonable to ask this here, and to think that some of you might know about this. I bet some of you cover your animal feed with tarps for example. (Tarps are quoted as being polyethylene, and polyester, and vinyl. But I don't know the percentage breakdown of them.
Tents are said to have some of the same stuff; nylon, (some felt), some cotton, polyester.
What do you think about this?
Thanks.
