Utah!

Cool, I will stop in to see you this week then!

You know I am teasing about the eggs....haha.....just so exciting to have a high tech gadget in my hands, pretty tempting!
My list for spring: BR but I may just get an IFA chick, rather than hatching. I have had good luck with those...then I want to hatch Tolbunt Polish in Feb, (early because they take soooo long to start laying!) and getting BTB Marans in the Spring from from Michelle, then I would like to get more eggs from her and hatch Wheatens and blue orps again, and maybe white ameraucanas from Noseychickens somewhere in there if she has eggs... And if Red is selling eggs I would like to hatch some of her B/B/S Ameraucanas, still trying to get a blue girl. And I would like to try to hatch the Marans again with some of Mesha or Cindy's eggs. Just to say I actually got some to hatch! Have had bad luck with those. Then lastly, I think I would like to try a batch of showgirls. I would like another one or two of those in different colors. But I want to see how my girl does this winter, not sure if she is going to be cold hardy enough...Then I will be fighting the fight in June and saying I am done, much easier to say it than do it! If you hatch SF next year I might buy one from you, keep me on your waiting list. I would have gotten one from Cynthia but I need to wait til the ones I have lay so I can see how many will be staying in my flock to see if there will be room after my wish list for spring is filled. Or see if the DH will build another coop out there in the back, we are leveling our garden and making a pen back there for (maybe a goat or two?) or something, still undecided. I might seperate my girls and put the more ornamental types together seperately so we can try showing them and keeping their feathers a little nicer. Will see how ambitious I feel in the Spring!

Wow, welcome to the new kids! It's fun to get new friends.

Cynthia, what cute babies. I'm glad you had such a great hatch.

Lisa, I wouldn't worry about a stealth rooster based on one goofy egg. If you start seeing lots of bullseyes, then you should start wondering.

Love the coop, Urban.

Thanks!:) I had the guy paint it that way for me......he was soooo awesome!
Um so YA I did have my babies in my closet at one point.....then my two year old found them so then had to move them to the kids bathroom that could lock! Ya that was not fun to share a SMALL bathroom with three boys and my hubby:) By the way what does DH stand for? Am I missing something......:)
So I have some bad and scary news for me:( went out to check on my girls that can sleep out there in the coop and I found some poop with some blood!!!!!!!
WHAT DO I DO!!!!!
I have been giving them the Nutragena brand of chick starter feed the non medicated kind and today even before I found this I bought a new bag of medicated kind same brand for the babies.....so when I found the poop with the blood I gave the older girls some new food.
Is this contagious are all my girls going to get this?!!! I am sooooo sad!!!!
PLEASE HELP!

If you see blood in their poo for a couple of days or more, and they are NOT on medicated feed, switch them to the medicated stuff for a few days. It's a fairly common problem with little chicks. I've also found, though, that if they are on medicated feed and have been on it for more than a few days, you probably need to take them off of it if you're seeing blood. Cynthia says it's hard on their systems, and boy do I believe it.

DH is Dear Husband

DW is Dear Wife, DD = Dear Daughter, and DS = Dear Son. At least, that's what I always understood it to be. And in my case, I have BF, which is the boyfriend..........

Lisa - You have a ninjaroo!

Lisa, which of your birds are old enough to lay and not laying yet? Maybe we can help you figure out if you've got a hidden boy, or a neighbor's rogue running around. *rubs hands together excitedly*

So - I think I have a new layer! When I went out to feed everyone this morning, I checked some of the favored laying spots just because, and was very surprised to find a light tan little egg sitting out in the open near one of the spots. It had been there overnight. Though it looks very similar to my BO's little eggs, I am 90% sure it was not from my BO. She laid one yesterday, and I collected it later in the day. Plus, the low luster of this mystery egg makes me think that it came from one of the Wyandottes, either my mom's SLW or my little black Wyandotte, Angel

Fun stuff!

ok guys I'm leaving tomorrow to come home. Funny thing happened. I happened to look on craigs list and there was this add for chicks. Frizzles no less. She had hatched out 40 frizzle babies. Well I told my son we needed to take the boys over to see what frizzle chicks look like. Bad idea. I bought 8 of them not sure what I'm going to do with them tomorrow night as we're staying at the mirage and somehow I can't see me hauling in 8 chicks through the Mirage. She also gave me a dozen eggs. See ya all soon

Ha ha! This is so hysterical, I am laughing out loud about this. "Addict of the year" trophy coming your way lol! Chicks, on vacation, in Vegas, with added eggs for hatching (of course). This is too funny :lau And not just a couple, but *8*! Good luck with them, I hope you all make it home safe! This so sounds like something I would do. Several of us actually haha! Love it!

Red, I will go through the list and if I can get some pics tomorrow I will. I want to figure out what the deal is out there! I am wondering if it is the last Olive Egger....still has not laid, and the other one started weeks ago. Sure looks like a pullet, but....I will get some pics. They are messin' with mah head! A new egg is exciting, hope it is Stevie or Angel's! Their mamas laid light brown eggs. One was more glossy, the other more matte, very light tan.

I'll admit, I'd be tempted to get a couple of Frizzles, too. And then that mean little voice in my head would go, "You can't afford them. Leave now."

Lisa, I'm excited to see if you really do have a ninjaroo out there! I have read about people finding they have a very effeminate roo only after seeing a failed attempt at mounting. Some of them are pretty sneaky. Yes, the egg was a very light tan matte; my BO's have a beautiful gloss to them, which is how I know it wasn't hers. Also, Wyandotte eggs seem to stain a little easier when they're laid. Has anyone else noticed that? (Maybe it's just my birds) The SLW I had in Tooele would lay eggs the same color, and they always seemed to stain more easily from the ground or the laying "lubricant". I'm going to crack this egg open this morning and eat it. If it's fertilized, then it's a fluke from my BO. If not, then I know it definitely isn't hers. She's the only one I've seen the cockerels mating with.

My Exchquer is driving me nuts. Her face is getting redder, she'll still squat for me, and she's almost always outside of the fence. I've been looking everywhere in the yard for hidden eggs, but I think I'm going to need to sneak next door and check their yard when no one's home

Omigosh Sundance, I am cracking up over your sizzle impulse. I brought a shoebox of chicks to a poker party. I am definitely staying even farther away from you, now that you have even more sizzles and eggs to hatch.

Lisa, I still think you have all girls, and just had a weird looking egg.

Red, that naughty girl.

I still don't have anything hatched from April on laying yet, which means I only have 5 laying hens at the moment. Those early April girls sure look ready. I'm a little surprised none of them are laying. They're 24 weeks now.

ara, I am seeing nice looking feathers already on the two that you like..I will save those two Swedish for you. I can't believe how many people want these down this way..clear to Richfield! I have a lady coming tomorrow from Manti, will buy a couple of the Swedish, and a couple of the Faverolles. I better get the red nail polish out..to mark yours..and mine! Something I do to make sure someone gets the ones that look girly, and to make sure I don't sell it, because there are two that look pretty much alike.

See ya Wed. night!

Sphinx..any min. now, you will have a lot more eggs! Wow, 24 weeks. If they are, or have Am./EE in them, you know they usually take more time. Let us know...you and red..looking for those eggs. :)

Well I got a very unpleasant surprise tonight. I went out earlier and checked the favorite nesting spot for eggs, and sure enough, I found two lovely eggs. My BO was yelling at me for taking them, so I thought, okay, I'll leave them here for a bit and appease Her Majesty. Two hours later, I went out to collect them and found ONE egg. No shell fragments or yolk/white remnants. The smaller egg was gone. So what I've suspected for a while is true: something is stealing my eggs, and I now suspect the magpies. Dirty little birds

Yay! I'm so glad they're looking girly! I really did have my heart set on the grey one that you suspect will be blue spotted, so I'm especially glad about that one. :D I can't wait for Wednesday night!

Speaking of chicks...does it matter what sort of place in the house I put the brooder? Do I want it to be somewhere that we spend a lot of time or should I give them their space or does it not matter at all? I was thinking about putting it in our office. We spend a fair amount of time in there, but it's definitely not an all day kind of place.
