Utah!

Well, last night/this morning we got about 4" of snow here in Hyrum. All my chickens were hatched between March-May of this year, so had never seen snow. In the morning when I open their hen door, the bantam cochins and Hedwig (Ameraucana) come bursting out of their door at the same time. This morning, they burst, and quickly came back down onto the ramp because they saw all that funny looking white stuff covering everything. Hedwig hadn't made it out the door, but the cochins had, and they quickly went back inside. Bullet, SLW, was next. She slowly walked down the ramp, and stood there cocking her head to get a better look at the snow. I was laughing my head off at her! After a few minutes, all the girls were standing on the ramp, wanting to get down, but too weary of the snow to do so. It was hilarious! they went back into the coop for a while, but when I got home from work, they were all outside, underneath the coop where there wasn't any snow. :)

Love that pic of the BA screaming for her privacy! My GLW does the same thing. HATES to be looked in on when she's in the box.
Speaking of which, Lisa, does your friend from WY who's taking your Polish boy want a GLW that was hatched this past March? She has been laying 5-6 days a week, but she's just not as friendly as I'd like. Isn't mean, just isn't social with people. Unless there's food involved. Ha :)

We are down to about 5 blue & green parakeets, and about 5 fancy parakeets in the store right now. I'll be sure to holler when we get more in. I'm so sorry Duke was naughty!

Sphinx-what a cute little fart egg! :D

Oh, Aravis! In the coop, I've got a 1 gallon plastic waterer. My DH wants to run electricity out to the chicken coop and duck pen, but wants to do it right. So that means no extention cords. ;) I'll probably put either an electric dog bowl or the smallest heated chicken waterer out there once it's run.

Jill-I'm hoping for a miracle for your little silkie! Big hugs!

Cynthia, congrats on the hatch! Sorry the one didn't make it. :( Hugs to you, too!

Sasha I will ask this gal about the Wyandotte, thanks! I am thinking she will come this next weekend or the weekend after at the latest. Thanks also for the heads up on parakeets. His last one Oscar was solid yellow, now he has a blue one named Mazey left. I am thinking he will go for another yellow or green...sometimes I get so mad at that dog!

Funny about the snow/chickens...you have to wonder what is going through their head! i know what was going through mine....(not yet! ugh!!)

Sphinx, cute little fart egg. Which one did it, do you know?

Hattie, how IS that silkie doing? Any progress? Are you hatching any babies at the moment?

Cynthia, can't wait to see your babies. I am really going to miss you posting baby pics every week!

Sasha, that is so funny! All of my chickens haven't seen snow before, so I may have to make the effort to watch them see it for the first time. I'd love a show like yours.

Lisa, the fart egg is the same color as my olive egger. However, she's always laid in the new coop, and the fart egg was in the old coop. I also DID get an egg from her yesterday. But, I think she's laid twice in a day for me once before.

My chickens seem to be slowly shifting their laying headquarters to the other henhouse. They don't seem to like the new henhouse for laying, so the younger girls are one by one starting to lay in the other one. Less for me I guess- only collecting from one place.

My Silkie is still acting fine. Still eating and walking around slowly but is still so swollen. I wish I could do something to help her.

I took some pictures of her yesterday.

I'm not hatching anything right now. I'd like to but haven't found any eggs. I still have to broody Silkies too.

Awww, Jill she is so fluffy and pretty! Hope she gets well soon. Glad she is still doing ok so far! And hope you have survived all your company...you will be wore out before the holidays even get rolling :)

Sphinx, too funny about your girls shifting the egg spot...mine have been laying a few more in the nests facing our house, a little closer to go get....but the two that keep laying in the run are making up for that convenience by being a royal pain in the butt. :p They both sit in the nest and act like they will lay, then skitter out and drop them in the run. I want to tell them to "finish the job right"!

Wow, I haven't been on this thread forever, and the unviewed number count proved that; I believe I hit around 200 or so. After skimming through some of the posts I belatedly realized that If mom (SashaT) is inheriting a fancy incubator, our old one is perfect for more little ducklings, correct?

In my typical fashion, I've stopped by to snoop among the chicken lovers, and of course leave a little something for the ducks! My ladies are proud to represent their kind among all the chickies.

Ella, Buff Orp.

Posey, Yara, and Ella butts. Yara has the cutest little spots on her booty!

Posey decided not to be camera shy for a change.

I've been thrilled with the nipples. It's been so much nicer than my old set up. I like it even better in my chick brooder- I was having to clean chips out of the water multiple times a day before. Once I got these guys to figure out how to get water, it's been sooooo much cleaner.

I've only done the shipped eggs thing once. It was an adventure. They shipped from TN during USPS's busiest week of the year- the second week of December. Then, my regular guy didn't deliver the mail that day, and the back up driver FORGOT to deliver the box. I threw one heck of a hissy fit because it ended up being stuck in the post office here for a good 48 hours. I ended up getting 6/7 to hatch, which was great, except that I didn't get the breed I paid for. I was supposed to have golden laced wyandottes, and only one turned out to be an actual GLW, all but one of the others were mutts (RIR/GLW mix), with one being a straight RIR. I complained to that seller, and she said she'd send me new eggs, but I never did take her up on it.

Wow, that's frustrating... I know, I'm a little nervous about it, but I think I have to take the risk to get a variety of the breeds I want to keep... Watching the swap I think I'm getting them for decent prices, too, considering the kind of eggs they are...

oh, and love the duck pics!!!

FYI Lisa, I do work next weekend (Nov 3-4) It kind of drives me crazy, I really don't work that much, I'm part-time and work 6 shifts/month, but somehow those days always fall inconveniently, no matter how hard I try to arrange them, sheesh!

Good to know! Hopefully Nancy will come this weekend rather than next! If not, will work it out :)

Thanks for the fodder link, I did not know she started one, I have been debating trying after reading her posts on the ID thread. She really is a good bird mom, those guys are spoiled. Oh, and the bread recipe! UT people, will get a kick out of this, ---she bakes them special bread 5 days a week with flax and all kinds of grains. Wow, huh? She is one busy gal! No wonder her birds are so so so amazing! Everytime I go out and look at my girls from her I am just so happy I made the trip(s) over there. I know they are the healthiest/ best quality birds I have, by far. Hope she sells chickens forever. and ever.

I have a new tan egg layer, I think it is the Delaware.....teensy golden tan egg in the nest today. Will watch closer tomorrow! Oh and I figured out the rooster situation, I had an EE turned boy. TOTALLY looked like a girl. Except it was on top of my Wheaten yesterday. Woops! My neighbor is taking him off of my hands. Pretty funny that one got past me. Still has not crowed, at almost 7 months old! Now I just have the two Polish boys, one with a new home soon, one still looking for one. The second one I am still not 100 percent sure so I just kind of let him hang out....but I am calling it a he for now. Crossies I am wrong

Sierra, pretty pretty ducks! I really like that spotted one!

Lisa, you found your boy! They're sneaky like that. My black Am cockerel crowed yesterday. First time I have heard him, and he is from the same batch of blacks and blues we got from Cynthia.

Love those ducky butts!

I'll have to catch up more later.
