Snow Girls stuck in coop and run today, now what shows up is a big rat. Any one have ideas how to get rid of rats.

yes, larger ones than for the mice. I haven't rats..now you have me watching..the mice are bad enough! I've tried the traps for the mice, but they are very small, and just don't get caught! The food is gone..even if I just smear a bit of peanut butter on it, it is gone! But no mouse!! There is a different kind of trap I haven't tried yet. It is one that will catch the mouse and close it up into the trap. A larger trap, but I'm ready to try it.

Well since we dont have anything going on new years eve. What between Fannie kidding and tinker bell having puppies the wife decide that there is absolutely nothing is going on so she decided to hatch some eggs.

Congrats on your new layer Cynthia! I got a whole whopping four eggs total today. Sheesh. It was friggin so cold here I am surprised I got any at all!

Madchicken, Gary, I have to laugh, I thought you were a she. I do not know why, just assumed it and now I am thinking it was pretty funny when your pic came up with Cynthia! Sorry 'bout that lol!

Red, glad you were home and saved your girls from that nasty hawk. Glad to see your job is going well! I meant to post this a while back, but I am going to Chickenstock if you want to come to Logan and ride from here with me. Blujems, Sphinx, Sasha? Anybody else is welcome. You guys are a hoot we would have a great time Just fitting all the chicks/chickens in on the way there and on the way back will be the fun part. if I have five or less people in the van then I can put the back seat down and fit kennels and boxes in the back.

So Blujems, you ready to set eggs tomorrow? Let us know what you put in there! Exciting!

EDIT: Phoenix, I just saw your post right before I posted mine. That is a lot of eggs! Those Marans eggs are gorgeous. I sure hope they hatch out lots of baby girlie chickies! And goats! And puppies haha!

What about that kid on ksl that has the ferret. I heard they are good for rats. he claims he can get rid of them with his pet. The problem with rats is if you see one there is usually ten more. I hate rats. When i was a kid i remember playing in a back bedroom and a rat climbed out of a cold air return that was missing the grill. It just stood there and starred at me. I couldn't move i was so terrified. If there is one animal on this earth that i would rather see dead then alive its a rat.

on a good note. Cotton has decided to remain broody. She is now sitting on 2 eggs. One is from my Dominique/Barred Rock and SLW. The rooster is rusty the RIR bantam. if they hatch will this give me bantam sexlinks? Hum....

yaay, Cotton is going to be a mama! Watch out..she will be a protective mama. LOL... has growled at you yet? When I would pick her up in the mornings to put her by the food, she would growl at me. And, attack my big black boots. I'm glad you have her.

Madchicken, I think ferrets will also go for chickens, so be careful. I don't mind rats, but I sure don't want them in my coop or bothering my girls. Same goes for mice. I don't want them ruining my food or making me sick. And yay for Cotton! Good girl.

Lisa, heck yeah! I'd love to ride with you to Chickenstock. Oh boy, we would get in so much trouble there......

I'm beginning to get a suspicion as to why my BO was so grouchy today. She laid an egg while I was napping, according to my mom. Okay, so I go out in the garage to collect the egg and check on her, and I find the BO sitting on her egg. She wasn't all fluffed out, so I don't know what she was doing, but she got a little upset when I went to feel if the egg was warm. So, me being the disciplined person that I am, I of course stuck another egg out there to see if she'll sit on both of them

Sphinx, I outlawed Silkies for a while because of how often they go broody. I wouldn't have the heart to keep booting them off the nest. I love chickies too much, you see. Of course, I may already have my hands full with some of the other breeds I have. We'll see.

Blu, Phoenix, looks like you guys are going to have fun for New Years!
