Too funny, the beautiful blue EE that I have been waiting to start laying, and to see what color she would give me may have started laying last week. Because, her egg is brown!
I sold my NH real quick yesterday on KSL. I have all these others starting, and laying consistantly now. So, I knew I had the red sexlink laying a nice brown egg, the leghorn mix is green, the Wheaten A. is pretty blue, and of course, my leghorn is white. So, I go out to check for eggs as I hear yet another chicken making her announcement. It was the blue girl. I saw her in the pen I emptied that has nest boxes in it. I thought, oh good, she must have laid in there, and I didn't mind. But, I checked the nest boxes in the big coop first. There was the Wheaten A. laying on three eggs. Two, were brown. I say what? Like she's going to answer the question coming. Why are there two brown eggs in here? She just looks at me. I take them both, and realize, that the blue EE, is not an EE! She doesn't have a pea comb, but a comb more like a BO, or even my sex link. So, I am happy, because I have two colored eggs, and had thought, wouldn't mind if another one of the future girls laid a brown egg..like the non NN. Well, I got one! It's the same size as the small little red sex links I hope it gets bigger. I know the sex links will. They are that pretty dark red brown color. Love that color in the browns! Yaay..I wondered why she wasn't laying. Those two eggs look so much alike. And you know I check my nest boxes every day. There were no eggs in there when they went to bed! It's the blue girls' egg.
