Utah!

Too funny, the beautiful blue EE that I have been waiting to start laying, and to see what color she would give me may have started laying last week. Because, her egg is brown!
I sold my NH real quick yesterday on KSL. I have all these others starting, and laying consistantly now. So, I knew I had the red sexlink laying a nice brown egg, the leghorn mix is green, the Wheaten A. is pretty blue, and of course, my leghorn is white. So, I go out to check for eggs as I hear yet another chicken making her announcement. It was the blue girl. I saw her in the pen I emptied that has nest boxes in it. I thought, oh good, she must have laid in there, and I didn't mind. But, I checked the nest boxes in the big coop first. There was the Wheaten A. laying on three eggs. Two, were brown. I say what? Like she's going to answer the question coming. Why are there two brown eggs in here? She just looks at me. I take them both, and realize, that the blue EE, is not an EE! She doesn't have a pea comb, but a comb more like a BO, or even my sex link. So, I am happy, because I have two colored eggs, and had thought, wouldn't mind if another one of the future girls laid a brown egg..like the non NN. Well, I got one! It's the same size as the small little red sex links I hope it gets bigger. I know the sex links will. They are that pretty dark red brown color. Love that color in the browns! Yaay..I wondered why she wasn't laying. Those two eggs look so much alike. And you know I check my nest boxes every day. There were no eggs in there when they went to bed! It's the blue girls' egg.

It's hard to be mad when your holding a Cotton ball.

It's interesting to see what everyone looks like. Sometimes I get a mental picture of people based on their personality here, and then when I see a picture of them, it's a little strange. But in a good way

Like when you think someone must have blonde or red hair, and they actually have brown. And then you're like, "Oh, okay. That works, too."

Whittni, I can see why you want one of those cats. They look so elegant and pretty! One of the guys at work brought in his Bengal kitten the other day. Oh my goodness, so cute! And so curious, too. I love kitties.

This is my little pet peev! I spend the morning cleaning of the porch off of chicken poop. Just to open the door and find this!
I guess it could be worse. All 20 of them could be up on the porch.

Hahahaha! Madchicken, some of mine do that, too. My little BR pullet loves to come up to the door and see what the humans are doing. So does one of the turkeys. If we open the door, they look inside and then wander off like, "Uh, nahhh, no thanks."

So it's snowing again, and the mound of branches that the girls like to nest in has been somewhat smashed down. I just caught my BO heading out there dutifully to lay her egg. When I tried to show her a way into their favorite spot, she protested and growled at me. So I picked her up and showed her a different, much more easily accessible spot. She just stood there until I was almost inside the house, then went right back to her spot. What a brat, but too funny. And now what is she doing? She's sitting out on the mound, sulking.

Oooo-kay, that's enough fun for today! I went out to grab my BO off the woodpile and stick her in the garage, since she's either got cabin fever or needs to lay her egg. I was almost up to the garage with her when I heard both my Icelandic cockerels scream. Turned around and saw a hawk landing in the neighbor's tree and watching the chickens. So, everyone except for the turkeys got confined to quarters for the rest of the day, and I shooed the hawk off. No lunch here, Mr. Hawk. Good bye.

Got to meet Gary..Themadchicken...he doesn't look too mad..lol
His son came along too!  Nice folks.  My poor Cotton look awful.  She's been sitting for around 5 days now, and she has a sticky face. Thinning out.  She'll get pretty and fluffy again come spring.
great picture. gary you do not look mad at all. and man your son looks so much like you. glad you got cotton. so i think its safe to say most of us have one or more of cynthia's babies? one of these days i need to get a updated picture of the babies i got from cynthia. you should see them cynthia, the spr is sure the eye candy of the flock and the buff orp is a very friendly girl that tends to get very jealous if i pet one of the other girls. she is my baby.

It's nice to "see" you, MadChicken. You'll love Cotton, I'm sure. I'm giggling at all the chickens on your porch.

Red, why did make a rule against silkies? Glad that Icee warned everyone about the hawk and everyone was kept safe.

Whittni, your chicken ensemble closely resembles mine. LOL

Cynthia, congrats on the new brown egg layer!

had to give a little pep talk to my girls tonight, reminded them how i give them a nice home, all the treats they can eat, lots of love and not once a threat of a chicken dinner, gave them lots of cuddles and begged for eggs. last two days i have gotten zero eggs and the two days before i got one egg each day. they got thrown off by the weather i think? i have lights in the coop and set it so the lights are on even longer. hoping for the best
