Utah!

Corvidae, I am so sorry about the mineral rights. I've read that stuff about not having mineral rights in real estate, but I'm not sure how you retain those rights. That is so frustrating and aggravating. I hope they find no oil and leave you alone. I'm also really shocked and appalled that someone stole 8 of your legbar hens and the Americauna. It sure sounds like someone who knew what they were doing. I remember you had a favorite hen, did they take her? If I had a nice place to send my white legbar rooster that you gave me, I'd totally take a regular legbar rooster. I like the idea of a traditional pair. But, as it is, I have three roosters, which is probably one more than I ought to have anyway. I hope you find the culprits. Did you file a police report? I think I would, even if I never expect to find them. Padlocking is tempting- if they didn't bring wire cutters, it could deter them, but just until they got home and got some.

Sundance, I hope your friends made it into town, even if they did refuse to bring chirping chicks. I cut holes in my brooder, and tried to duct tape hardware cloth in place, but it never stays. It seems like Lisa did something cool with her brooders. I need to figure out something soon, these chicks need the bigger space. You and I also need to get together and swap some birds.

Hattie, I'm glad your polish is doing better.

I am so sick of winter. I want warm weather for my birds.

Cynthia, thanks for sharing those pictures, today we had 2 missionaries report on their missions and 1 was just home from the Atlanta GA mission. Sounds like a beautiful place!
My sons papers are officially submitted. The waiting and guessing has begun :)

Heck, I've got more roosters than I know what to do with-- there are 6 Legbar Roos up there! Once we figure out what to do about the thieving, I'll take the girls back up there and cut down on the boy population. Anyone want a Legbar roo or two? Or three? Or four?, Yeesh!
wish i could have roos. hope you can find some homes. but hey if you ever want to place some hens, please let me know, i would totally make it worth it to you :) hey red how are you doing? hey sphinx how is it going with your cows? i am going to stick a beef cow at my sisters this year. what breed did you get?

Sphynx how are you feeling? Let me know when you want to come over. I am enjoying my chicks. My friends did make it and stayed just a short time. They were going to spend the night but worried about todays storm. They took two kittens home and brought me 8 Serama eggs. Wallace is going to oklahoma on Tuesday not to freezer camp but for bug control. He is crowing but not very loud, Much better than last time. We hope that next time it gets done completely right, Going to try that on a silkie. I let the chickens out and into the yard today they were very happy. I gave them their Sunday pumpkin outside for a change, Its starting to snow a bit here. I have the Serama Chicks in my living room. One is already showing signs of being a great quality bird. its wings are dropping down and its chest is coming out. Really really cute as 1 week old, I bet if you put your legbar rooster on KSL for $20.00 it would sell, That is too much for a meal so would go to a breeding home. Just a thought. I have not had one call on my Marans chicks I am really surprised. Guess its just to cold for people to be thinking chicks. Last year Feb 1 Chciks were selling like crazy Oh well I'll keep them and charge more in a few weeks

so not sure if any of you remember but i have this one ee with very bad feet. well she like all my ee like to tuck her head under another hen, well this led to her getting her eye pecked a few months ago. so i do not think she can see out of that eye. its healed but does not look like a normal eye. but she gets around great still. its amazing how chickens can adapt like that. she is my special girl and i could never get rid of her for it. hey cynthia the buff orp i got from you is such a funny girl. when i go into the coop at night to tuck them in she always jumps down from the roost, squats for me and then we cuddle for a few minutes before i place her back on the roost. you would not believe how fluffy the spr is, she is so fluffy and so soft and as sweet as ever :)

Holy moly, it must have dropped 3-4 inches down here already and it isn't looking like its going to slow down one bit! I am so glad I got up to Duchesne yesterday rather than waiting, even though it was a horrid mess. I would NOT want to be trying to get up Parley's in this mess! I've been called into work tonight (yeah, so much for having days off--my kids are a little peeved) and I'm not looking forward to driving even the 5 blocks to get there!

Sundance, here is what we do with our brooder lids:
1000

1000

1000

Just fold the wire and make your own lid, not too hard, but the downside is sometimes the edge of the lid catches my clothes when I walk by too close, I have a lot of snags in my jeans and sweaters I need to clip some of the edges.

Donna, what a crazy day getting in to see your birds. That is a lot to do for them, I hope they appreciate their chicken mama! Dang it to the chicken thieves, too, what a really rude thing to do especially with all you go through to care for them. I hope they get caught! And those chickens cost you soooo much, I remember how expensive. I would report it as well, you never know, it maight save someone else losing a chicken if they catch the thief, although I have to agree with Sphinx it sounds like they knew what they were doing, I have to wonder if it might be someone you know or who knows you.

Cynthia awesome pics! yes my wheatens have blazing orange eyes too, I like it alot! And they have great personalities don't they? I hope this one that hatched is a girl

Hey Blujems did your eggs hatch yet? or did they make it? Do you want to sell anymore FBCM eggs--I sold all mine and am thinking I could set some more, I need to hatch a couple girls for myself :) And I have some more friends that are asking about them if you have any for sale. I still have the cuckoo mixes, a couple girls and a few boys if anyone is interested. The girls are getting really pretty! I am going to have a hard time only keeping one or two.

Sphinx, I have been wondering about your cow too, you should give us the update!

Wow we are getting TONS of snow today! We have shoveled, and shoveled, and shoveled...the run is getting super disgusting again, I just got it all fixed and cleaned out with straw. Grrrr.

My Polish that was hurt by the dog, went back to the coop last night, was doing great, but the others cannot resist picking at her scabs. I put the no-pick lotion on it, that usually works, but she keeps cleaning it off of herself and dustbathing it off, then they want to eat her. So she had to go back in the garage for a bit, I am too worried she will get that wound pulled open, the scab was picked completely off this afternoon. I really wish they would not do that to each other..

Heck ya I would not want to be out driving. We live on a dead end street and they hardly ever plow. My DH moved my van out on the curb to plow the driveway, now he is out there stuck lol I think we are getting 5-6 ish, my AC is covered and I stuck the ruler in and it was 6 inches deep--and coming still!

Just put them on lock down today. I ended up with 4 FBCM eggs and 1 of the cucckoo/ameraucana eggs. The others either never started or quit. I am wondering if they hadnt started to freeze before I got them inside, it was so cold that might be why.
I will let you know when I get some eggs...I keep hoping the hens will start laying again....
