Utah!

Cynthia, I forgot to mention you: I'm glad that your son looks like he's having a great time and adjusting well.

Cyndiloowho, when do you think you'll hear on your son? Keep us posted.

Sundance, yay for gorgeous chicks, and congrats on the 8 eggs. I hope they all hatch for you. I'm feeling much better- very little pain. I'm still deaf in my right ear, which is starting to get really annoying. When I was at my worst, I said I didn't care if I was deaf, as long as I didn't hurt. Now that I don't hurt, I want to hear again. Guess I'm never satisfied. LOL We'll get together in the next week or so and do some swapping. I'm glad you didn't sell any of your marans, I think I want a couple hens- I just looooove those dark eggs.

Cows: My cows seem to be doing quite well. I got short horns. I can't remember if I shared the picture of them when I was feeding them a couple weeks ago. The cow buddy feeds them most of the time, but he had me take care of them when he went out of town for the weekend. I tossed hay down from the loft. One of his cows, a Bali, would not get out of the trough, and they all ended up looking like green monsters.

Mine are on the far right- the reddish ones. This is before I started tossing hay. Think they look hungry? LOL

And this is after I tossed the bale down:

Corvidae, sorry about getting called into work. That bites.

We've gotten a ton of snow here- I'd bet it's around 5" or so. We're going to my inlaws' house for dinner, but it's only a couple miles away.

Sphinx, my son's call should be here in the next 2 1/2 weeks I expect. He is right now off feeding his cows too!
He has some Scottish Highlanders that are now at Wheeler farm. His hay is in Taylorsville.....treacherous drive today to feed!
When he gets back he will get a BIG kick out of your green cow pictures :D

Speaking of the land in Duchesne...We had some company contact us this past fall, wanting to survey for possible oil on the land. Given that we bought the land for the boys and they don't want anything to disrupt their happy little nature wildland, we flat out told the company no. Turns out, though, that this blasted company bought the stinking mineral rights on our land and we can't stop them! How freaking outrageous is that? Evidently, they can even put wells on our land and there is nothing we can do about it. I had multiple long and heated conversation with people from this company, all to no avail. They even said that if they found oil on the spot where our cabins or coops were located, they could use that spot, though of course they will very kindly pay for any damages. I believe I started ranting about the cost of chicken emotional therapy at that point. That spot where the coops and cabins are is the best and most sheltered spot on the whole 11 acres. I will freaking lose it if they ever tell me I have to move them.

Then they started talking about surveying further to find the best placement for a pipeline they are considering putting in. I *might* have started babbling about the fine benefits of eco-terrorism, but it is something of a blur, since I was absolutely seeing red by that point.

My poor son got really upset about all this. He is a total Greenpeace-save-the-polar-bear-and-animals-are-better-than-people kind of kid, so the thought of anything happening to his land is really disturbing for him.

Moral of the story--if you ever buy land, make sure you get the mineral rights...

Check your Deed of Trust and the Title Policy for that land. It should say exactly what you do and don't have rights to so far as resources, and where they are located. Where I work, I see a lot of documents that state something about resources that are not located below 300-500 feet being within the rights of the property holder. After everything I've been seeing in all this fine print, I'm going to pay very close attention to whatever documents I'm signing for property in the future.

I can't believe you guys are getting that kind of wind and snow! Nothing here like that, but it did just start snowing lightly..well, it's a light icy thing going on. I'm thinking we may wake up to some snow. Unless..it is moving north.

Sundance, the pictures that Lisa showed of her wire, is exactly how I do mine. It's so easy to put a light on top of it.

Brad, I'm so glad the chicks I got to you are nice girls. I know it's mostly because of how you treat them. They know they are loved. I'm glad you got them, you take good care of them. I think we all know when we trade or buy from someone on this thread, that our birds are well taken care of, and if it's time for one to move on, we make sure they go to a good home. I love us guys! And gals! lol

Sphinx, are those cows on your land or somewhere else? They got big! Of course.

Green monsters. :) The will be back to normal soon, either by them cleaning each other off..or your snow!

cyndi! Oh, soo waiting to see where your young man goes. You should find out soon. You all will be watching that mail box like we were, then out of the blue, we get a phone call from the P.O.! They say, it looks like we have a LDS calling here, would you like us to keep it here so you can pick it up, or bring it? We decided to have them bring it, since we had watched that mail box so long! It was so fun watching/listening, for the mailman that day! Austin opened it, and we all hugged and cried, and laughed. Talked, then next thing, he was on the phone for about an hr. telling people he got his call and where it was. Fun Day!

Gary, you aren't far from us, and as I finish this post..it's windy now! Blowing that icy stuff around pretty good..man, that moved in fast.

There you are! You changed your avatar too. A nice looking turkey!

When you decided on getting those Welsummer eggs..and think you can handle a bunch, I'll go in on the eggs! I have one pullet. I am crossing my fingers she does ok. Poor thing, she is a loner, because her joined at the hip friend was a cockeral..and I can't have roos. He went last week. :( I am watching her while I put her in with the big girls in the day, and back to the grow out pen at night. Think they are finally coming around to her, so, will try to keep her out with them tomorrow.
Oh, and about snow coming..I think we are in for a biggy by this weekend.

Sorry for bad news everyone! We always get a lot where we are.

Hey wait, who was your Wellie's buddy? The one I got from you for my mom is doing fantastic. She was raised with three other chicks (all girls, thank goodness) and she will sometimes hang around with a couple of the older birds, like my RIR. She's very friendly and chatty. I love her warbley little voice. Should have gotten a Wellie for me, too. Dang.........

Sorry, things are crazy as usual. I haven't been on the computer much lately. I'm still catching up on posts, then I'll make a full report.

And the turkey is Betty, my mystery hen I got a while back from my uncle. She's a pretty girl.
