Utah!

Sundance I love the stand you made to hold your light. I need to make me one of those. Ponto!

Cynthia what day is hatch day for you? Can I ask is there no hope for my eggs with the liquid in the bottom? They are still moving and alive so I just put them in the incubator anyway.

Acemario thanks for the compliments :) I have not put updated pics on for awhile, he heh, we are planning a little more expansion this spring  There are a few of us on here from Logan, Glad you joined, this is a great place to talk and learn all things chicken, trading chicks, transporting and sharing rides for chicks and eggs, and just having great company with the same (obsessive) interests. Lol.

Sundance those chicks are GORGEOUS! And I can see the MH in there, I am getting so excited to get mine, they are even cuter than I thought! love the crev. babies too:) The lid on your brooder turned out great, I like the ziptie idea.

Cynthia the bl and white ones are the mottled houdans! So cute huh! Good luck on those olive eggs, you too Hattie!

Lisa, I'm actually kind of terrified to use my incubator, haha! I'm so afraid that I will end up killing whatever I put in there. Someone on the Easter hatch thread recommended using a couple of dummy eggs to get it tuned up, so I think I will do just that. I'm going to dig out some of the older, unfertilized eggs from my girls (you wouldn't believe what I still have) and try it sometime in the next two or three weeks..... But I am excited that I will finally be able to get going on the breeding project with my Icelandics

Cynthia, I will try and make it down to your place tomorrow after I get off work, then. I was feeling lousy yesterday because I only had five eggs collected for you, since the light in the coop was out for a couple of days. And then today, my girls gave me three new eggs for you! Good girls! We'll see what I get tomorrow before I come to see you.

Acemario, I've got a couple of Icelandic cockerels and a Barred Rock cockerel. You can see all the breeds I have in my signature line. Too lazy to type them all out, sorry, hehe. Any eggs from my Ameraucana or my Easter Egger's would be EE chicks. The rest would be barnyard mixes.

I caught my male turkey trying to swallow a chicken egg whole last night, did I tell you? Yeah.............he got walloped a bit so that I could get the egg out of his mouth. crazy birds.

And one of my pullets seriously sounds like an old lady muttering to herself! She doesn't say "buk buk". She says, "uuuhm, uuhm".

Hattie, the two that were left with the fluid, that are viable, are still doing well, and get this, when I candled last night, I didn't see any wriggly stuff in the bottom. I had kept the humidity down this last week, wonder if that did it. Down more than usual. I have it set at 62 63 for now. Mine are due on Wed. Come on babies...a blue baby. That will lay me a nice dark olive egg. :D
When are yours due..I just went into lock down today.

But bad news, I just had to throw out sooo many of my barred rocks! What's up with that? I'm down to 5 with those too..and they have a ways to go. I think I may know what happened..because I thought of it after I did it. I put lotion on my hands, but I washed them. But again..I didn't wash real well like usual..gotta wash those hands before turning! Argh! I know better than that. I could tell there was still some on my hands. What was I thinking. I was thinking, a little won't hurt, but I'm pretty sure it did!

That's a happy dance from little Dumbo. :)) Because I can't do it, and you wouldn't want to see that anyway! lol...

Thanks for the welcome, everyone! I'm in the Logan area as well! Thank you so much for getting me in on the transportation train! :) I'm thinking of incubating about 20 or so (This is my first hatch!!!). What kind of cross-breeds do you all have? Is there any cons to having cross-breeds compared to pure-breeds (egg production, temperament, etc?) Once again, thanks for the warm welcome!
Some pure breed chickens lay lots of eggs and some are just for show and lay very poorly. Most pure breeds are breed for a specific color and not for eggs. Most private breeders have keep the egg gene so if you want pure i would say get them from private if your looking for egg and color. But at least in my flock i have noticed the crosses usually outlay the parent hen unless the parent hen was cross breed for eggs to begin with. At least in my flock. As for temperament, Each chicken has their own personality. I have a couple pure pairs and it seems like their is one in each pair that love attention and the other wont let me get close. As for mixed it seems to be the same, i have one that will follow me in the house as the screen door closes and one that doesn't like to be touched and they were raised as eggs mates. It seems like most people on here have a mixed flock. I know this didn't really help but good luck and welcome to BYC. Just have fun.

sundance, those are sooo cute..and good job on that light fixture. wow. Look at that cute little chipmunk in the last picture, and that black and white one I love! What is that one???

Black ane white are the Mottled Houdans and the chipmonk are the buttercups they are all doing pretty good. i went to a Superbowl party and had fun but I would have rather been home with my babies, I worried about them the whole time,

Ir was easy. I cut one inch PVC 3 feet tall. Then I measured across the top of my tub. I cut the cross piece 27 inches. The stand had a foot in each side to steady the stand. I used two elbows and two t's then put it all together. Was easy to build and will be easy to dismantle and store when I am not using it. I put the wire on the middle of the lid with zip ties so that I could lock the lid tight and not worry about the cats getting it open.

Red that is way to funny about your turkey trying to eat an egg. I will miss these turkey stories if you have to get rid of them. Oh which reminds me........ Sphinx I forgot to tell you how much I laughed at you throwing the hay on the cows. It seriously was funny. So many things I'm still catching up on.

Lisa: Expanding? Yeah, you have the chicken bug!

RedIII: Oh, cool! I was hoping to try finding some kind of sex-link match to make it a little easier this first time of hatching... but we'll see... I still have a few weeks to decide. And as for that turkey? What did he want...? the heimlich maneuver?!? haha

themadchicken: Thanks for the info. I will likely be giving most of the chicks from this hatch away, so I wanted to be sure I would be giving away a productive hen :) Great info!
