This is so funny. I went to the garage to bring in some potatoes for the soup I am making for lunch. This is what I pulled out--I had to do a double take!

I got to meet Sundance last night! It was so fun meeting her and her DH. Oh and their cute little dogs and those gorgeous cats! Pictures don't do justice on those cats. They are incredible. Diana brought me a surprise too.




Quail eggs and Serama eggs.

She isn't sure the Serama eggs are fertile but said to give them a try. So excited. We really enjoyed our visit with them.

Lisa I love your potato.

by the way I'm still giggling over what to said to Sphinx when you ask her where she had been lately. I Love those girl scout cookies.

Now I must read up on hatching button quail eggs.

Hattie, isn't sundance a sweetheart? I did quail. Had to give them a try..button quail. The eggs were tiny. The babies were tiny..lol Cute to watch.

Sundance gave us some button quail egg too, I already had chicken eggs in the cabinet incubator and Emu in the still air- so this was my solution for a quail egg holder...
Rice Krispie tray holders, there are all the rage this spring I'm telling you!




Also, had to share this Awesome thrift store find for $2. I still only get 1 egg every other day or so but ONEDAY I will collect eggs in it.....LOTS of them......colorful ones

That basket is CUUUUUTE! i cannot believe you picked that little beauty up at the thrift store. I am jealous! it is perfect. And the rice krispie holders he he pretty ingenius right there. It really show how tiny those eggs are! Yes you knew exactly what i was headed to get at IFA..sounds like the one in SLC is much more exciting!

I'm going to buy an incubator this week and i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I have been looking at the ones at ifa and cal ranch with the egg turner, you know, the foam ones. Does any one have an preference of one brand over the other? Oh ya, i ordered 500 lbs of feed from the guy on ksl that's from delta. I thought i would give it a try. The feed i give them now is the same except it has an added higher protein layer pellet in the feed. The only problem is my flock wont eat the pellets, they have been raised on grains and scratch the pellets out. My supplier on feed change her source and it has more pellets then grains and i think the chickens have waisted close to half of the last 300 lbs i bought in December.  He claims it still has a 14 percent protein count. I might buy 100 lbs of oats to mix in just for a good mix, what do you all think? 

Oh ya, the three chicks i hatched in December are up for grabs if any one wants one. Free to any BYC members.  2 look to be hens, RIR/ Australorp. The last is undecided. RIR/ Buff Silkie, looks like a roo but so did all my silkies when they were chicks. 

I started my first batch of eggs last night. These are my eggs and I set them as a test run in my incubator. On my list for "next time I get an incubator," a digital thermostat. E one I have has a knob on it and is guess work to get it to where it needs to be. DH has a cool super sensitive digital thermometer, so I know exactly where the temp is at (thank goodness to, because the one on the outside is 10* off!)

That's all the input that I have on it. Learning myself.

I had some time this afternoon, and found my camera yesterday! So I wanted to post how the showgirl (one of the three musketeers) is coming along. Any thoughts on gender guys? I sure hope she is a 'she'! The tail is getting awfully big and fluffy like my last one (boy).

This is her buddy, the Black sex link from Blujems eggs. She is a really sweet shy girl.

I've never had show girls so don't have a clue! They don't look real. Cute!

Oh....and my polish are hatching! Two out so far. Two more with pips. The last egg was alive at lockdown but had the worst air cell of them all. Honestly, their air cells were so wobbly I didn't expect anything out of them. Now I hope that I don't end up with all boys.

Thanks, I love (her!) Good luck on these eggs, hope you can share chickie pics, I would LOVE to see crele babies, never seen them before. So excited for you! That is great you at least have a couple already!
