Picture time!!

Just messing around posting a few pics of The Hoard.

Pretty little BLRW hen, and the Black Roo:

Couple of the BLRW hens and the Blue Roo:

I love BLRW chicks--so dang cute:

And a little Splash chick:

And a passel of Joel's Welsummer chicks! All of them are very healthy and sprightly!

This is why I don't come to BYC very often, I see all these baby chick pics and want one of each! We are building a new house on a .6 acre lot (over three times what we have now) and I keep thinking of all the breeds I want to add next spring. A BLRW, Delaware, Marans, Legbars....

I'm sorry for those of you that have lost loved ones recently. (((Hugs)))

Everyone has beautiful chicks and I am so jealous! ;)

Hahaha, Corvidae! Love the comment about the stampeded. And your chickens are drool-worthy, as always. Love that little splash!

Blue, I feel for you. I've just kind of learned to deal with nasty stuff, too. Hey, at least I am up and walking and have my chickens, right? I'm glad you'll be getting rid of the pain, at least.

So don't ask me why I'm up late. I don't know, either. My pillow is going to beat me something fierce.................

Anyway, I forgot to check the nest mound for eggs tonight, since I saw my turkey sitting on it earlier. So I went out to check for eggs, but was impeded by a large, silver-laced blob sitting on the nest spot. Yes, it seems my mom's SLW has decided that it's her turn to be broody

I confiscated the turkey egg she was sitting on, but I left the lone chicken egg she is guarding. I have one solitary little Icee/??? egg in the bator that should hatch soon, so I can give her that chick. Assuming that the egg hatches, that is. It has been a lively little thing ever since it was an eyeball dot, but for the last couple of days, I haven't seen any movement. The egg is almost completely full of chick, so I'm not sure what this means. I hope the little one is okay. Dang, lousy power surges

does anyone breed rabbits? My daughter talked me into some. The hutch will be done tomorrow and she is very anxious. We are looking for Lion heads or Netherland Dwarfs

Welcome to the newbies! I'm trying to skim everything I've missed.

Lisa, congrats on winning! What did you get? I loooooove Jafar. What a gorgeous chick.

Birdman70, welcome! I have a single coronation sussex hen. I got her egg from River Rock Family Farm in South Weber last spring. They have some really nice stock, or they did last year. I haven't visited in a while.

Sundance, that serama hunt sounds more exciting than a traditional egg hunt. I am so sorry for the loss of your friend. I'm cracking up over your house chicken.

Cynthia, love those chicks. They are very tiny and cute. I am so sorry for the loss of your uncle. I think the unexpected deaths are harder on us, but probably easier on the one that passed on.

BluJems, that vertebra issue sounds excruciatingly painful. Those OE chicks are adorbs. I hope they're all girls.

I don't breed rabbits, but I have a friend who does. She only does lops though. Here's her website: http://thebunnybox.weebly.com/

Kimmypie, that .6 lot is going to be troublesome, keeping your chicken numbers down. LOL I want to hear more about your new house.

Corvidae, your birds are just gorgeous. Your hens look like their daughter. I finally got a picture of her yesterday:

My preschool eggs are due to hatch on Wednesday. This has been my worst hatch to date. I set 7 eggs. One never developed and I have two quitters. Of course all three of those were Corvidae's BLRW. I'd decided I wanted to keep a couple because I want one of those BEAUTIFUL BLUE BLUE BLRW, I guess the fates are conspiring against me. That remaining one is probably a boy. Just watch.

Hi guys!
I'm going to be driving my hubby over to his semi that's parked in West Valley City...I'm leaving at 4pm from the house. I know this is short notice, but if anybody on that side of the mountain wants some bantam cochins, I'll bring them with me! I've got 2 black, 1 silver laced (looks like it'll be a Roo) 1 red and 1 very unique color...looks greyish-tan based with black barring. A sweetie. The red is a roo for sure as well, everyone else is kinda up in the air still. They just turned 3 weeks. I'll post a pic...
I'm also going to be driving to WVC on Saturday evening to pick the hubby up after his week-long run, so could bring them then as well, if I have a solid commitment that you'll take them.
Call me ASAP if you want me to bring them with me tonight!

We'll still be in Eagle Mountain, just about 10 minutes closer to everything and where the lots are bigger. :) I'm really looking forward to it. I'm NOT looking forward to moving the coop and finding a temporary place for the chickens, then moving the coop AGAIN. I'm hoping we lay out the yard better this time. We plan on having the coop and garden at the back of the lot (on the east side) with the chickens on one half of the lot and the garden on the other, then switching them and having the chickens where the garden was once we've harvested everything. That way we can actually use all of their poop and stuff, but it will have time to 'mellow out' before planting. I'm really open to ideas though, I want to have a large garden and run area. We will probably do fruit trees lining the edges of the yard so we can keep the view. Maybe a shade tree in the chicken area if there is enough space which there should be. We would also love to add bees and hope that will increase our success with gardening (i'd never gardened before a few years ago and didn't grow up with a garden so it's all new!) because we haven't been super successful before this.
