Utah!

Birdguy, that is a great letter! I hope your troublesome neighbor eases off. Honestly, I don't mind dogs barking at all unless it's the middle of the night. I wish you were my neighbor.

The power is not allowed to go off!! I have eggs in lockdown at the preschool, and even as it is, it's my worst hatch ever. I wanted to keep a BLRW from Corvidae because she has such gorgeous stock, but only one made it to lockdown. Watch: it'll be a roo.

Red, I notice a distinct odor as chicks are hatching, and I've also seen waste material as they hatch. It all sounds really normal. If you're worried, I'd take them out and clean the incubator really quick, if you think you could be done in 20 min or so.

Red--I have seen some with the green gunk. It is not in all of them but there are some that have it. I am thinking if it were me, with more eggs that still have quite awhile to incubate--I would slip those eggs out, put a warm towel under and on them, spray the bator bottom super fast with a little diluted bleach spray, rinse it super well and pat dry as well as possible (the wet styrofoam skyrockets the humidity for a day or so until it dries out so really dry what you can, maybe even a quickblast with a blowdryer), put that lid back on to get the temp going up again, (you could even use the blowdryer again here to fill that bator with some warm air to get a head start) and get those eggs back in asap, in ten if you can. That is what I would do. Most think I am a little crazy, and they are all right. So take that under advisement :p and good luck!

Good Grief? Like Snow much??!!!!!!! Is it just in Logan or did you people south of here get any? I went out in my tennishoes and they got packed with snow. So, I switched to snow boots. This is not how I wanted to start my morning. My girls won't even come out of the coop to eat this morning, too much wind and white stuff blowing everywhere.

My sizzle roosters came from Tennessee today. They are stunning. The blue is 4 months old the splash is 3 months old. I am in love.

Hi all! I have birchen marans hatching!!! Two so far with five more pipped! I am concerned about one of the two, it is dragging something behind it, looks kind of like an umbilical cord?

I forgot to say I met madchicken aka Gary yesterday. I am hatching silkie eggs for him.
Thank you again Sundance. Funny thing, last night i went out to feed the chickens and Cotton was in one of the nest box acting broody. The same tonight, but it was late both nights and she does like to go to bed early. She did lay an egg today. Wouldnt that be great if she goes broody and the eggs hatch. I could just slip the chicks in under her. She is such a good mom she wouldn't make a fuss.
