Does anyone on here use Hen Savers? We just bought two and got them with the predator eyes. The ladies (and even the roo) are petrified of the predator eyes, so hopefully it works with the hawks too.

I know Daysiechicks has before and said they seemed to help.

Unfortunately our 70 degree weather from yesterday turned to around 30 and several inches of snow! so we have put off for another week our chicken coop preparation work.......sign.......patience, patience.......

Very nice! We picked up a doghouse that our dogs won't use, I was thinking of using it for the house for the bachelor pad. I haven't quite figured out what to do with the door... leave it open, those rubber curtain strips, etc. But keeping fingers crossed it doesn't look like I'll hv very many roos. Dang, I probably shouldn't be typing that!

Thanks for the advice! I'm kinda liking the roo, he's friendly (so far). They are such pretty birds. I also missed that I do have two hens plus the roo. I'm kinda excited to see how soon the girls lay, they are supposed to be one of the earliest layers.

Julie Julie Julie.... What ARE we going to do with you girl??

My name is Marty, and I'm a chicken addict too.

2 years ago, I started out with a plan to get 3 chickens. They were so cool, so the first day I came home with 6. "Just a few more", and somehow there were a dozen that first year.

Last year, I added 20 more. More coops, more fencing, more eggs.

This year, I sold the original dozen, and bought 25 more. Bigger coops, more feed, more eggs.

This morning...
"Honey, how many eggs do we have left?"
"4"
"What? Where'd they all go?"
[hands on her hips rolling her eyes] "You keep selling, eating, and giving them away!"

Julie, you'll never have too many eggs!

We could carpool to AA, I mean CA together! I'm actually excited to have so many hens and it will be nice to not continually tell people we're out. I'm starting to feel guilty when watching that animal hoarding show tho.... I hv a coop outside, one in the garage and a chicken in the kitchen (Betsy).

I'm not sure Bets will ever be safe to integrate... she honestly thinks she's a dog. On the couple nice days we had (and where the heck did they go?!) we put her outside to free range with the outside girls and she has no interest in other chickens. They didn't pick on her as everyone was so excited to be out of the coop. She does her chicken scratching, lays eggs, etc. but in the house she gets excited to be let out of her yard, just like the dogs. She makes these squawky sounds and jumps around a dog dinner time and eats the kibbles right along with them. Luckily I don't get chicken dust fm her since she's a silkie and she doesn't make a mess...the dogs clean up after her

Oh, and she watches TV with us at night -- really! She likes bright colors and music.

Is there anyplace to get pure Ameraucana's in Utah? Rather than the hatchery EE? Looking to add blue-er eggs to my dozens.

There is a small scale chicken rancher that sells eggs at the Provo Farmers Market. He breeds his own lines and I believe he has Aruncas and *maybe* Ameraucanas in his laying flock. Not sure if he has any chicks or pullets he wants to sell, but you could inquire. He's located in Payson. Let me know if you're interested and I'll PM you his contact information. Is there a reason you don't want Easter Eggers? I have heard that because of their breeding, they are more friendly and stronger layers than a pure Arunca or Ameraucana-they just usually don't have muffs, which is kind of a bummer I guess.
Good luck!
Maria
