Ugh! My Japanese got squashed last night and I lost her
hit.gif

I thought about bringing her in last night due to the cold snap and her small size...but she seemed great at bedtime so I decided not to. Looks like some of the juveniles piled into one of the nests to snuggle last night and she was on the bottom. Oh man she is just flat. I feel so bad for her. She is so much tinier than the juveniles, even though she is almost 3 months old, and they are 6 through 8 weeks. Poor baby! It just broke my heart when I went out to check on them this morning and saw her like that

Aww thanks Rykel, so sweet of you :) I really better not add any more that small this season, I am scared to put anything that little in the coop/run now, unless it is more full grown size with little chicks to be the buddy. I might try again next spring, when I have the showgirl coop/run put together then I could put a Japanese in with those, they are a little smaller and more mellow, I am going to put my two smaller Polish in that one too, they can't see well enough to fend off the big girls either, I keep thinking another accident will happen with those!

Hatching quail in a few weeks, so will be working on a small habitat for those, I guess DH will have those for his teeny babies now. He is bummed about the little Japanese, she used to sleep on him while he was laying on the couch watching tv.

Sorry! FBCM and BCM are basically the same, at least I use them interchangeably. It's a breed of chicken- French Black Copper Marans.

So, as of now, I have 5 eggs out- the FBCM, the olive egger, and three legbars. Of the legbars, I got two pullets and a cockerel. The olive egger chick is a beautiful gray color, with a white spot on the head. I wonder if that means it's a cockerel?

There's two legbar eggs left in the incubator. One is pecking away at its' pip. I suspect the other passed away without pipping. I tapped on the egg, and when alive, I've always gotten a chirp in response at this point. I'll leave it a bit, but I'm not optimistic.
They are so cute.

You need to get Sphinx on this. She is really good at it. 5 and 6 look like boys to me both, even though one is more red. The others, no obvious boys yet IMO.

SillyMcCoy--FBCM = French Black Copper Marans, BCM = same thing

(Layers of supremely dark chocolate brown drool worthy eggs)
Dark Chocolate Drool worthy Eggs, I might have to look into getting one. :D Anyone know where I could get one, even though my hubby might kill me. We have 10 chicks right now, but I'm sure 2 are Roos, so they will need to be rehomed, and I'm sure one is a Bantam, so I'm not even going to count that one as a chicken, she is so tiny right now, my little peanut.

This is my Partridge Rock. She will be three weeks on Friday. She has feathered out much more than any of the other chicks we brought home, her comb is distinct and obvious and she has a long pointy tail while the other three have a flat tail. She is also full of attitude and adventure. I'm very new to chickens, so I'm hoping that she really is a girl and is just maturing quicker than the other chicks? Maybe she is older than the other three girls are? I was told they were all hatched on the same day. If you compare her pictures to the babies below you can see a big difference.

These are the other three girls we brought home. A Buff Orpington, an Ameraucana (is it, or is it an Easter Egger and how do I tell the difference?), and our little sweet Welsummer. All the pictures were taken today.

They are so sweet. Sorry about the quiet one. I enjoyed watching them last night.

Sorry to hear about your little one. I obviously have a lot to learn about all the different breeds and sizes of chickens out there.
Lots of breeds have big combs in the hens. give it some time to see
That's good to hear. I hope she is going to be a hen. It would be a relief not worry about it. If I have to rehome "him" I'd like to know sooner than later. Maybe you could look at my pictures and see what you think?

There are lots of those around...Sphinx might have some chicks for sale, if not she might have fertile eggs you can hatch or someone could hatch for you...Daloorashens might have some for sale--she will be at chickenstock Saturday--i am headed there too if you want to pm me your number I could call you if there are some there and see if you want one...there might be some more people there with some...Blujems might have eggs too I cannot remember if her rooster is still there or if he was dispatched, he was being ornery. I am done hatching, what I have left is a blue Marans and a FBCM to see if they are girls, I might sell one if they are both female. I think they are both boys though.

FBCM eggs=pretty :)
