Utah!

Oh Good! I really like her. She climbs on top of the jar in the feeder. She loves to dust bathe. Every time I go out to visit she makes me laugh. I will be patient and hope for the best.

Hi all,
I'm brand new to BYC and to keeping chickens. My daughter and I brought home 4 chickies from IFA last Friday. I've tossed around the idea of getting chickens for about two years and finally just jumped in. It helps that my cute daughter persuaded me to do it sooner than later (she is 21 - so I really should be over her "persuasiveness"). I don't have a coop yet, and am looking at KSL classifieds to see if I can find a decent one. IFA had one that I glanced at briefly. Does anyone know if the quality of their coops will hold up through the harsh weather we have here? Or can someone recommend where I can purchase a coop for four hens?

Also, I'm not sure where to locate the coop and run. I'm leaning towards having the coop situated on the north side of the garage and then have the run open to a south-eastern exposure. I feel like keeping the coop shaded from the hot southern and west sun will be more beneficial to the birds in the long run. My hubby is afraid that will be too cold for them in the winter.
Hi Shmeal, We sound very similar. I too am new to BYC and bought 4 chicks a few days befoe Easter and have since added two more. I was about to buy a coop from ksl but my husband insisted that he coud make one for much cheeper so I now have a fabuoulous coop ($300) located in the backyard. I would love to review notes, pics, ect as we both learn this new experience. I live in Riverton. Where are you? What kind of chicks did you get?

Aww thanks Rykel, so sweet of you

I really better not add any more that small this season, I am scared to put anything that little in the coop/run now, unless it is more full grown size with little chicks to be the buddy. I might try again next spring, when I have the showgirl coop/run put together then I could put a Japanese in with those, they are a little smaller and more mellow, I am going to put my two smaller Polish in that one too, they can't see well enough to fend off the big girls either, I keep thinking another accident will happen with those!

Hatching quail in a few weeks, so will be working on a small habitat for those, I guess DH will have those for his teeny babies now. He is bummed about the little Japanese, she used to sleep on him while he was laying on the couch watching tv.

Are you hatching buttons? We have ours in a reptile habitat that woks well

They will be jumbo coturnix from IcyOldHen, making a cage out in the run for them. Well, we have a cage already with a wire floor, need to make a stand and a next box for it. It will be an adventure :)

I saw that reptile habitat, it was adorable! As were those tiny babies :)

Can you believe the cold and snow today. My little ones have been outside in the coop for over a week now, really enjoying the extra space and a few hrs in their run to stretch out, but not today....it's freezing. I just hope they will be okay and that the sun will be back soon. Here are four of my girls (i hope).

Been thinking of raising Cornish Rocks next year. But after researching them here and seeing feedback from McMurray customers... I don't know what to think. Who's right and who's wrong? I was thinking of keeping one if I did because I love big, wide birds... But... I don't know. >.< The world is a confusing place...

The snow today made me mad. D:

Hmm... Not feeling well... Need to eat probably but I'm not thinking straight...

I think your babies are the same age as mine.

Mine were born the 25th. :3 I have a Delaware, a Leghorn, a Barred Rock, an Easter Egger (one of your chicks looks like her), a Naked Neck and a Welsummer.
