Thanks, Watermelon_Gypsy! I saw the ad too, now I'm just looking for some meat birds to buy for a reasonable price off KSL (spent hens or roosters) so that I can have my first lesson. Kinda nervous!

I'm maxed out on space with my flock, so can't add meat birds just now, but I'm hoping to work something out in the future.

I'd be kinda nervous too lol But my dream is to eventually have enough land to have egg (and pet) chickens & meat chickens. They are selling meat birds at cal-ranch but their chicks so you'd need somewhere to put them for 12 weeks. I hope things work out for you & that your able to learn how to do it

@thegoosegirl ~ oohhhh I want a pair of Sebastopol goslings SO bad!! You have to share pictures when you get them - totally jealous here. They are beautiful!

@sugarhousehens ~ WELCOME!! I love the sugar house area

It's nice out today! There are clouds looming but at least it's now snowing! *knocks on wood*

I just bought my first 3 hens (Black Stars) from Cody who runs that site, Get Chickens. I was very impressed by him. He took a newbie like me & showed me the ropes. He was very patient with me & my buddy & we must of BS'ed for almost 2 hrs. He lives in Lindon bordering Orem on the East side of the freeway. Dude is younger but definalty knows his chicken 101.

first off, welcome. i'm in the same boat with the chicken math. we're at 11 chicks right now and need to quell the addiction until we know how many we can really handle.

i'm new at this but you may want to check with a few more experienced folks if you plan to keep the silkie with the larger breeds as chicks. she may get trampled as the larger breeds grow a lot quicker and end up being 3.5 times larger in the end.

I have a naughty rooster that's 6-7 weeks old that I'd love to be rid of. Its a Buff Orp, in with 15 pullets, keeps jumping on them, and pecks at me when I feed treats. He's been in the dog kennel a few times to give them a break.

Thanks for the offer but I'm in an area that doesn't allow roosters. plus, Daysiechicks was kind enough to give me one of hers. despite the urge to get more, at this time i'm trying to keep from adding to the flock.

What weather do you prefer? Just a couple days ago, I was thinking to myself that it would be nice if we got more rain so it wouldn't be such an artificial feeling having a lawn and garden in UT. But then I thought about my childhood MO, which gets plenty of rain but has the BUGS and humidity to go with it. I was thinking there probably isn't really a spot on earth that would really provide perfect weather. Just curious if you've found such a spot-I'd love to hear about it, as my husband will be graduating and we'll be on a national job hunt in just a couple short years.

Hey everyone - we just bought our materials for our coop! We are converting a portion of an old horse shed into the coop and run. Here are photos of our clean-up in progress. We hope to have it all completed in the next week!
