Thanks for asking. Not so hot. The pain is out of control on the left side of my head. Meeting with a spine specialist next week. Hope they can help.

Oh, so sorry to hear you are having troubles!! Hope they can find something for you!
I've decided I'm going to turn into an OCD wreck over the next month or two! I have some BLRW chicks hatched from one of the egg sets I bought to keep a little genetic diversity in my flock. Looked at them today really closely for the first time in a week or two--I'd been feeding and watering and cleaning and such, but too busy to pay attention to how they were feathering in just yet. They are about 4-5 weeks old now and some of them still have chipmunking on their backs and almost all of them have cream colored chests. I have NEVER seen that in any of my chicks, so I though right off the bat that someone had sold me some mixed eggs and now I have chicks I'm going to have to rehome! Then I noticed their wings were much shorter than my birds at the same age. Hmmm. Slow feathering gene? Something's up there. So I post to the BLRW thread and am told they could be a complete waste of time (breeding wise) OR, they could become the best looking birds I have. AAARRGGHHH! Now I am going to go crazy until they grow out for a few more months, just waiting to see if they are gorgeous or appalling!!! I AM NOT A PATIENT PERSON!

Lol, I feel the same way!

Lisa, you know you can't resist puffy cheeks AND feathered feet!! These are the bantam easter eggers... Moms are bantam cochins, dad Blue Wheaten Ameracauna roo

Dang if I am ever going to get a real showGIRL LOL!

Blujems--Brandi is wanting to know if you do shipped eggs from your wheatens and how much. I have her number if you pm me I can let her know, wasn't sure if you still had that rooster with them.

She is selling turkens and bantam turkens, I will put pics below if anyone is interested. Her mom goes to SLC twice a week if anyone needs a chicken train.

Boys to rehome, if anyone is interested--I have a Blue AM roo that came from a big pretty blue egg from Cowgirl. Supposed to be SQ stock...also an EE from Sundance that is white/lavender colored. A black turken male also....all about 4 weeks old. If anyone is interested let me know. Not 100 percent positive on gender, but pretty sure. I also have a beautiful Blue Copper Marans chick from Cowgirl that is starting to look like a boy, going to wait another week or two on that one, but if anyone is looking for one it would be good to know I may have a home for it.
Hi Lisa,

Have you found a new home for your blue AM roo?? Is he pure? I haven't read through all the posts yet but saw that the minute I got on. Please let me know. Thanks!!!

Well! Have I got a story for all of you. So at my house, we have a large, thick blanket of English ivy on the back of our garage that has been there for years and years and years. Periodically we have to rip parts of the ivy off of the garage to control it and keep it from eating the bricks. Well, the chickens have decided that they like to hang out in said ivy and lay eggs, as it is nice and cool and very protected. That was fine with me, once I found the two spots where they were hiding eggs. A little difficult to get into, sure, but I could deal with it.

Now, my bedroom window is near the garage, so I can usually hear when someone starts singing the egg song. And lately, I have heard my Exchequer Leghorn, Chelsea, cackling quite a bit. She is always orbiting that ivy, it seems. I've found a white egg once in a while, but the rest of the eggs were colored, so I thought she must just be going off because she saw someone else's eggs.

Yesterday and today, I have heard her singing out there a LOT. No eggs, except for one brown and one blue, both yesterday. It was starting to drive me crazy. I figured that Chelsea must have a new hiding place, since she is my rebel and usually is the instigator for finding new, clever laying spots. So I went outside, sat down and waited until Chelsea waltzed back into the ivy. Sure enough, I hear her cackling after a minute, as if she's in on the funniest joke ever. I get up, go over and bend down to see into where she is, and see her sitting up on top of some kind of folded-over tarp.canopy thing waaay back in the vines and right up against the bricks.

"Uh oh," says I. "Chelsea, you'd better not be laying back there. That's playing dirty."

Chelsea blinks demurely and jumps down behind the tarp. For a bigger chicken, it wouldn't have worked, but Chelsea is a petite girl and was quite capable of getting back there, as it turns out. Alright, well, I have no choice. That's so far back that I can't even get into the ivy enough to see behind the tarp, but I don't have a choice. So, here I am worming my way into a bunch of old ivy and spiderwebs (shiver, don't-think-about-it!) in my pajamas, no less, with Chelsea walking around and laughing at me, as if to say, "You'll never find them all!"

I stick my hand behind the tarp. Yep, there's a nice, warm egg right there. And a couple of cool ones under it. I pull them out, then stick my hand back there to make sure I got them all. There were more eggs. Enough that I didn't have enough room in my hands to carry them. Ooookay, so I take the seven eggs I've just collected into the house, grab my hat for carrying, and come back out to retrieve what's left. Chelsea is still laughing. And by now, I'm laughing, too. I just cannot believe what I've found.

Do you want to know what was back there? 27 eggs!! And 25 of them were Chelsea's! Holy cow, girl! At least now I know you've been laying!

She must have found this spot right after I busted her last one in the huge bridal wreath we have. And I'm sure that she's going to find another devious spot, now that I've raided her hoard.

So here I sit, scratched to heck with vine debris in my hair and all over me, but I'm feeling pretty good. Because Chelsea's not laughing anymore. I'm the one laughing. Ha ha, Chelsea. Stuck it to ya!
This is hilarious!!! I come across the same thing occasionally.... I have a one year old Blue Orp and Buff Orp who use the same hiding places...lol. But 27 eggs; WOW... busy girl!!!

I'm in oklahoma. Where the wind comes sweeping down the plain :p
Welcome OneGuy!!!

Happy Mother's Day!!

By chance, would anyone be interested in trying a few Icelandic hatching eggs? Lisa?
hide.gif
Anyone? I am going to start collecting eggs today, since our dear, awesome Sphinx is going to try incubating a few for me after the 26th, but I don't want any of these to go to waste. I'll most likely end up saving ones that I collect later on for Sphinx to use. Just a reminder, too, that I'm not sure how well these will do, given my last few runs with hatching eggs. I am very curious to see if it was just my dumb bator, though, which is why Sphinx is helping me.

Edit: Extra incentive, here. Here are a few pics of my flock, hehehe.

Hey Whit
frow.gif
... I'm supposed to get my new Sportsmans 1502 incubator this coming week. Would love
love.gif
some Icelandic eggs. I got some Am and Icelandic eggs from birdguy and planned on just tipping them until it got here, however my neighbor, who seemed to be having good luck with the Little Giant I lent her, I had her put them in. Now her luck has faltered, badly!!!, and she just received her new Hova Bator Genesis for her pure eggs, so my yucky incubator came home, with my good eggs
hit.gif
. I am so happy for her but I'm terrified about candling my eggs, cause I know how bad that Little Giant was. I'm afraid the money spent was a waste!! I should have just kept them here and tipped them.

However would love some from you. That way we would also know if it's your incubator that was causing your problems.

Hello all
frow.gif

Yes, out building more runs on the coops today
woot.gif
..... and yes Silly and Sphinx, will post pics; hopefully tomorrow!!
Huge thank you to you Sphinx for the Legbars
ya.gif
!!! They are integrated with the other purchases for that day.... 2 more Lav Orps, 8 white pure AMs and 4 CHOC ORPS. Wasn't going to do the Choc Orps cause of the price, but got a great deal on the white AMs if I did. Whew.... (I need a straight jacket when it comes to looking at those fuzzy faces)!!
I now have 64 babies in the chicken shed
ep.gif
.... all sorted by size, in brooders, pens and livestock troughs with heat lamps. All are doing very, very well. The shed has a thermostated air conditioner AND a heater...lol. And I've realized the shed is bigger than I thought...lol.

Husband is staring sideways at me.... better chat with him now...lol.

You and Lisa had better not go to any poultry shows together. You guys would be the highest level of enablers!

I will save some eggs for you, then! Now we just need to figure out a way to get them to you.

For everyone - I need the experts on Frizzles. The frizzle gene manifests itself pretty early in a chick's life, doesn't it? Or can it show up when they are a little older? My little BSL, who is about 4 weeks old, give or take a bit, has some crazy feathers poking out right now. I'll get a picture tomorrow, but it made me wonder if she could have the gene. I noticed it yesterday.

STOP teasing, I have 20+ chickens I am still trying to weed through and decide who I love the mostest :) These are definitely irreistable! See my question below for you Mesha....

CHRISTINA---I have been lazy and not put up an ad yet on KSL, I still have the Blue Am boy, he is a true Am from SQ Stock, same as my blue one I had at chickenstock. This one came from a really big very blue egg (of course, the roosters always do!!) so he would be great for use in breeding...he came from cowgirl. You sure can have him!

I have also a very light lavender EE **male** (not positive, but rehoming it still), that came from a blue egg, if you need a buddy for him :)

Also going on KSL this week: A dark partridge turken female born 4/26, 2 McMurray EE females, born 4/26, the lav EE above born the first part of April, same with the Blue Am male listed above.....

Lastly, I have what I thought was a blue COPPER marans chick, but I misunderstood and it is Blue CUCKOO marans, it is gorgeous, but looks boyish...I was sure it was blue copper because the eggs was so dark, if it turns out to be male is anybody interested in it? I should know in the next few weeks. It is really light blue with barring so it is turning out really pretty, I hate to KSL that one if someone could use him, wouldn't he make blue sex-linked blue babies if crossed with a Marans? Mesha do you know if the blue barred works the same as the black barred? I will get a pic on here.

I am done setting eggs other than SG for this year Red...thanks for checking though, if it were earlier I would be on this! Sphinx did you sell your Hamburg mix chick yet?

For sex links, it's the female that has to be barred. It won't work the other way around. If he is double barred, he could make some nice barred females for a future project, though!

Lisa, sadly, I did sell the hamburg mix. I sure wish it'd gone to someone here- I would've loved to have known how she turned out.

I have to admit I really get the giggles over Lisa and Desert Springs at a chicken show together. I'd love to come along for the ride.

Pawtrait is right- for sexlinks, hen is the barred one, rooster is the solid.

Red, I haven't raised very many frizzles, but it was pretty obvious within 2 weeks that they were frizzles in my limited experience.
