Utah!

Pssstt.......like I said in my message to you....you can use him next year in your chocolate program to breed them up to LF.....and if you get a black pullet and put her with your bantam chocolate roo you will know male/female at hatch and will be on your way to creating your own line of LF chocolate orps.

You are awesome with the chicken genetics

. I still have a ways to go from the horse species.

Ugh, I'm so sad that Sundancen is in the hospital, and not only the hospital, but the ICU. Sent her an email. Thanks for letting us know, Sasha.

Daloorshens, I sent you a PM. I would love your little legbar. Then I don't have to trade for one at hatch and have chickens in my front room long term.

So as of bedtime last night, I had three chicks hatched. Chicks that weren't supposed to come until late Wednesday or Thursday. Especially since we had a couple days of low temperatures. When I woke up this morning, the camera was offline. Going crazy wondering how they're doing, and if any more hatched. Trying to decide when the school will be unlocked...

Not sure if any of your saw this on KSL, but I was wondering is this okay to feed? I'm a brand new mommy and right now everyone I have is still 6 weeks and under so I'm still feeding chick starter, with treats of course. But I saw this and wondered if I could get some when the girls get older. I guess I really should start learning what I need to feed them here in about 6 weeks. They will free range all day, right now I'm nervous they are still so little with my aggressive MagPies that they are still in their coop/run. And yes, I've had a few sitting there staring them down all ready. Hopefully my terrier can get the scare on them soon. Right now they are still toying with my terrier, naughty birds.

Here is the ad, and is this a good price?

Christina/Daloorashens/Sphinx-- Daloorashens is in Id Falls, where we were for Chickenstock...I have family and go there quite a bit, that is where I am from originally....if I go anytime soon I can let you all know and get the Legbar Roo for Sphinx :) My Mom is coming to my house on May 29 for Graduation, she lives in Blackfoot (25 min south of Daloorashens), if there was a way to get it to my Mom she could even bring it with.

I am so sad to hear about Diana. I will write to her, and send good energy her direction! Thanks Sasha for letting us know.

Sphinx, hope your eggs are ok, can't wait to see!

Michelle, I love that you are on here. You keep track of all that brainy genetic stuff. I am always learning from you guys, I love it. I wish I could retain more of it in my brain lol it is pretty creaky in there! I keep copying and pasting the breeding/genetic stuff you guys post to a folder on my computer, and then I can't find the folder lol.

So here is a question...if I have a "paint" showgirl male, and breed him to a "splash" silkie female, any idea what I could get colorwise? I know I would have 50/50 chance of silkies or SG, but the colors I do not understand. The paint is technically white with pigment holes where black comes through, so not sure if it would follow the BBS rules for black, or Splash, or if it would not follow those at all because it is considered white or silver alleles like Delaware? I have no idea what paint is considered for breeding purposes...it would be a crazy science experiment for me.

The "paint" on a painted silkie...from what I can tell...is related to dominant white. The bleed through nature of the base color (seen in the spots) has not been defined. So, assuming that your "paint" is a black based silver bird with incomplete white coverage do to the undefined paint gene, a breeding to a splash would give you white babies carrying the "paint" gene. I don't know if the "spots" are dominant or recessive, though. If they are dominant, you'd get white birds with some blue spots. Do it! It would be fun to see how the paint genetics works.

I just got off the phone with Diana-Sundancenbare. She called about her grow out pen, and she does sound much better today then she did last week when I talked to her. She said she is doing much better, but still will be in the ICU for a while. She said she doesn't know when they will move her. Glad to hear she is doing better, hopefully she will recover fast and get out of ICU.

When can you start feeding scratch, I heard you have to mix it with the others, or can I just put it in like a 3 lb container?
When they are with mom, they are helped with food by her mushing it into the ground and making it small enough for them. I wait until around 5 or 6 weeks myself. Then I add the small grit into their area for them to find. I don't mix it, I just throw it out and around.
