Utah!

Where in Utah do you get your chicks? I've called IFA and they seem to have a good selection (the one in Riverton) but is that the best place? I'm not looking for anything rare, just standard friendly good egg layers.

Quiet too would be nice.

IFA is ok *IF*....

Check with the Riverton store, but I think they get their deliveries on Wednesday. If they do, make sure you go in as soon after that as you can. We've all see pasty butt, and a host of other problems with IFAs chicks. The only chickens I've ever had problems with, being sick, were ones I bought from IFA, not on Wednesdays. I think I've lost 5 birds (out of 120ish...) all from IFA.

I've actually got some in my incubator right now. They're all Delawares. I've got 42 eggs, and I have no idea how many will hatch. (Being my first time incubating). I'll sell you as many as you want that I got over 16. (What I owe the guy who wanted me to hatch).

They're straight run, so I'll only charge $1.50 / each.

I'm in Sandy

And for that matter, anyone else want some day old chicks this weekend? I've got way too many now! (grin)

And, for those of you who want, I'm setting up a hatch-cam. You can view it here , probably after tonight.
They should hatch Thursday/Friday/or Saturday.

IFA has sexed pullets, I always buy my chicks there and love them!

We just got a couple of chicks from Arlene in Pleasant Grove. They are hatchery stock, sexed, and all looked very healthy. I've included a link, I know it is for eggs, but she has a bunch of chicks. She has basic and rare breeds.

Personally, I wouldn't buy from IFA. I've seen how they treat their chicks and heard too much. Just ask Daysiechicks.

My niece has borrowed my incubator and should be hatching any day now for her science project. We got the eggs from a lady in Linden who will take back any chicks we don't keep. Would be happy to pass them on to anyone else who wants some. They are all "Barnyard" breeds.

Coop update: Have stopped waiting for the weather to improve and have been working in the rain/snow/cold. Chickens are in there but there's no way to get them to the run just yet. I have my limits to working in the cold.

Hi you guys!

I love how chatty everyone is - although I can't keep up it is fun to read & see what everyone is doing.

The IFA question -

I personally was NOT impressed with IFA - I've been to both the Riverton & the American Fork store. We did end up buying two chicks from the AF IFA and they are healthy & well, but I would be leary & 2nd picking them up the day they arrived, that's what we did. The rest we bought from the West Jordan Cal-Ranch and I can't speak higher of them, they were wonderful, their chicks looked good & healthy & the 3 staff members who I saw each time I went in knew their stuff. I'd go back there before going to IFA anyday.

PacsMan - a hatch-cam!! Soo fun!! You don't happen to have any Bantams do you? I need another one for my lonely welsummer.

We have 1 little welsummer bantam that is getting trampled by our standard sized chicks, so we are going to move her out but I need to find somewhere to buy 1 or 2 (preferably 1) little bantam to keep her company & then figure out a bantam sized coop for her. Does anyone know where they are selling (and are reputable) bantam chicks? I called around to the feed stores & so far not luck.
