I got a BA from Cal Ranch and I swear it is a roo! It already has a comb and wattles at 4 wks (see pic in avatar). This is my first time raising chickens, so I thought maybe BA's just develop those faster. The guy at Cal Ranch told me that their chicks are "guaranteed" to be pullets from the hatchery. That would be my luck to get the roo that slipped through the cracks! Why can't I be that lucky and win the lottery?? LOL

I bought chicks from Cal Ranch a couple of years ago. Ended up with 3 roos and a cornish hen. I did notice this year that they have the bins labeled pullets.

It's all in the odds! And for me it's still better than ordering from the hatchery my self!

And, they all buy from a hatchery and resell them. The Hatchery does the sexing before they're sent. So it would be the hatchery's fault where they order them, not the feed store.

But..... I suppose if you want them to have a nice (although crowded) home, I would take them off your hands at no charge (!), if you'll deliver them. Now that's a deal you can't refuse Marty!
