Utah!

Lisa, you are such a nice neighbor to take your roosters in every night. I'm very impressed.

Sara, hear anything on the job? Good luck.

Silly, I'd like to see your little silkies.

Doodledoo, welcome to BYC! Are you interested in exotic looking birds or interesting eggs?

No news on the job yet but it doesn't close for a couple of days.

Welcome to the Utah thread doodle!

Today is my sister's birthday so I surprised her with a "watermelon cake" with a whipped coconut cream cheese frosting, strawberries, blueberries, and kiwi. It was delicious!

Sara that is beautiful! Looks yummy for sure. That is so nice of you to do that for your sis :)

Sphinx, I never thought about kenneling them in the garage at night, then Red said something about her taking her roosters in at night and it dawned on me that might be a good way for me to keep one and not have neighbors mad. Then I kept two . We did try leaving them out at first but the little one is so rowdy at 5:15 am good grief. So the garage is working out pretty well. It will be a pain when it is cold and dark out early this winter to go nab them and haul them in though....not sure if that will work out or be too much work.

Silly--that silkie roo really is getting so pretty!

I agree. I wouldn't know what to do without my roos!!! They just go with the whole plan. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you can get a special permit. Thought you had grandfather rights!!! UGH!!

Stupid neighbors... how were your chickens hurting them??? YAY!!!

I was starting to get depressed...geez!!
I would like to know how my chickens hurt anyone also. The dogs have bit me and attacked my chickens. Chickens just go about their happy business. The one rooster crows consistently from 939 to 1030. He is a bit annoying, but also on the list to be processed...next week...but tonight as luck would have it.
Lilwanis, I can't believe a neighbor called animal control without even talking to you. How come they can't free range either? PM me and we'll look for some good property for you. Lisa brings up a good point though- often times, if you're over a certain size, you do get animal rights grandfathered in somtimes. There's a lady in my neighborhood who has just over a half acre. By current rules, she can't have cows, but because she's ALWAYS kept a cow on the property, she's grandfathered in. So maybe it'll work that way for you? Pancake, what if you were to make a sign for the farm, explaining what a broody hen is, what she'll look like, etc so that way, they understand she isn't sick? Silly, how do you know your silkies are boys? Lisa, have your crazy neighbors complained about your roosters yet? Brian, congrats on the new house!!!
Sphinx, I can't figure out the free range thing either :/ Well, I am off to try to call the lady again and see what can be done, if anything.

Thanks Casa, I just love his coloring, but he's going to have to go. I might try and pull it off with putting him in the garage, but we have a horrible neighbor that complains on everything about everyone in the block, so I know the first peep out of him, the cops will be here.

Update: if I can have coops 50 feet from any human dwelling, I can have up to 25 chickens and roosters are "not recommended". Guess who's going around the property with a tape measure? The other rule is that they must be 25 feet from neighbors but only 15 birds permitted and roosters are prohibited. The lady said something to the effect of, "Roosters aren't recommended because you don't want us to have to come out there all the time from the noise complaints, do you?"

For now, I only need to get rid of the noisy boys

WINNING!

This is good news. Your yard is HUGE. Certainly you can stay within the distance limitations? yes?

I believe so! The one house the guy wasn't sure if we were even 25 feet from. I just measured and it is 25 feet from the fence on that side! We have the one carport off of the garage...if all else fails, that is 50++ feet from everything. The scary thing is the rules specify front and back yard...for you and anyone else that has seen my house, I don't really have a front and back yard. Buildings are just kind of everywhere.

Whoo! yay Lil.

Than you!
