Utah!

I had the same problem with that incubator I bought from IFA thats why I bought the Hovabator as its temp set is automatic and I never had to worry about it
Well it was all I could find this time of year. But its been pretty stable since I put it downstairs. I guess if I have issues with it really bad, and I want to try to hatch out some more eggs, I will probably sell it and get something different. But I'm home all day, so I can babysit it, and in the almost 3 days I've only had it spike the one time. And it hasn't gone under 99, so its just the humidity that I'm fighting with now.

But I think I'm going to set the eggs tonight. I need to go get a sponge or something for the humidity, but its at 26% right now, so its not that bad I guess. The cheat sheet for my incubator actually says no humidity until day 18. So I don't know what to follow. The manual that came with it, said 35-45%.

Well I brought the eggs upstairs so they can warm up before putting them in the incubator later, its about 75 upstairs in the loft right now. I've had them in the storage room which is around 65.

Red, I'm so sorry to hear about your Roo. Hugs.

I DID IT!!! I just set the eggs. Now I don't touch them for 2 days, is this correct and then after that I start turning 3 times a day. They all have an X and O. Super excite, and super nervous that I'm going to do something wrong and kill the poor little things.

Thanks for all the help everyone.

Congrats, Karen! It is so exciting to have eggs going in your own home

I'm tempted to collect a few more Serama eggs and stick them under my broody..........*cough*......

Lisa, yes, this is one of the BR's you hatched. He's the one that we figured got messed up from all of the antibiotics those hens probably had. He really is such a cute little guy. He thinks he's a stud muffin, even though he's hen pecked.

I have the neighbor that helped me with the turkey, so I'll see if he can help me with this guy. If not, I may be giving you a call, Brad. I appreciate the offer.

Cynthia, how are you feeling?

Red, I'm sorry about your rooster. Good luck.

Sundance, I hope you will finally be on your way soon!!

Silly, good luck with your hatch! Unless it's shipped eggs, I start turning right away.

Well I turned them in the middle of the night, I couldn't sleep. But quick question, I don't know what to do, stupid incubator. I think if I decide to do this again, I'm getting an auto one!

Anyways, the digital one is in the corner on the wire, its at 100.2, but the one that came with the incubator I put on top of the eggs, and its reading at almost 102. I'm like freaking out, because if I adjust slightly the bottom goes down to 99. So I put one plug in, and that brought the digital one back up to 100, but the stupid one that came it it back up to 102. So I took it out when I rolled the eggs over, and stuck it in crushed ice with a little water to make sure I noticed the change the first time I did it. And its the same as when I first did it. Its off my 3 degree's both times I set it with the Ice water. So I do have it marked for the correct temp reading. So I don't know if its normal for the top part of the eggs to be hotter then the bottom, I know its still air, so should I watch the temp on top of the eggs, and not worry so much about the digital one on the floor.

Right not I have it to where the bottom is at 99, and the top is a little under 101 because I don't know what to do, and I feel like they are at least safe in this temp zone. I didn't have any issue with them not reading the same for the almost 3 days I had it up before the eggs, I'm thinking its the height difference.

Any thoughts? And they were only at 102 for maybe an hour, I literally couldn't sleep last night, I got up like every hour to check on it. My husband thinks I'm nuts, but I don't want to cook them.

Turn your eggs at least 3 times a day. I do around 9 in the morning, 3 in the afternoon, and then 9 again. Can be off, no biggy if you miss out an hr. later, or have to sooner because of what you have going on. You really want to turn them now so the embryo won't stick to the egg shell. Unless..you have them sitting upright in a turner or an egg carton. Then you can wait a few days..some folks do it that way. If they are on their sides..turn.

You and I can be hatching buddies. I may be setting some tomorrow night. If not, then Mon. We won't be far apart on hatching.

Im setting mine tomorrow. Ok..... im just going to stick them under a broody hen, but that still counts right? I still have to move her to the small coop. It needs needs cleaned out and new straw and wood chips put in one of the nest boxes. This is her first batch so i have to work with her a little. Im going to move her in the morning and add wood eggs. If she is sitting on the wood eggs in the afternoon them i am going to replace them with the good ones. Im just hoping something hatches.

I turned them once in the middle of the night when I decided to re-check the temp. That's when it was spiked up to 102, so since I was opening it up to get the cheap-o temp. gauge thing to stick in cold water to make sure it was really at 102 like it said. Its 3 degree's off, so I have a line at 100 and again at 102 for where the temp difference is. So when I opened it up I rolled them. I have done it twice already today, and I'm planning on doing it again around 10pm.

So far the temp has been steady all day since my freak out overnight. Its been steady at 99 on the floor and 101 on the top of the eggs. I did put a one plug in to regulate this morning because I did decrease the temp because it kept creeping back up to 102 on the top of the eggs. I read that its okay to have both plugs in for the first 14 days then take them both out. But right now its just the one and the temp has held all day long. Which has been a relief.

Hopefully all of us will have babies in the next 3 weeks. :D
