Sundance, be safe and have fun!

Sphinx, never underestimate the powers of children :/

Eeee! I'm so excited! I checked my little experimental wheat planter, and I have at least five sprouts pushing up! :weee  Who would have thought chicken feed could be so entertaining?

Red, have you tried growing fodder? If not you should try it, it's super easy and fun how fast it grows. 4-7 days and it is a few inches tall and ready for them to eat. You can even grow wheat grass to eat yourself, or sprouts. Personally I think wheat grass tastes yucky. My daughter makes these ucky vegan shakes with wheat grass in it, supposed to be super healthy, but tastes super yucky.

You just spread the soaked wheat kernals out on a tray in a single layer, keep them moist, and it grows into a lovely fun looking Thing!

Sundance, have fun, I am soooooooooooooooooooo jealous of all the sun you are getting. !

Lisa, I haven't tried the fodder thing yet. You might laugh but you know what's holding me back from it? I remember last year when someone said that it can get stinky pretty quickly if you don't rinse it often enough

Tell, how much do you usually sell pelts for? And do you tan/treat them yourself? That is something I'd like to learn at some point.

It sure can! But....not usually, and you rinse morning and night. I had a couple that went sour last winter, if you put your nose right down there and sniff...yucky. LOL it was probably my post you read. I just rinsed them really well and fed them to the girls early, they liked it anyway!

Depends on the pelt. I do tan them. I am still learning. It takes a while to figure it out.

red, I was going to ask you if you were doing fodder too when I read your post. I don't recall it being stinky. Like Lisa said, rinse it a couple of times a day in the first few days. I also sprayed it. I haven't done any yet this winter..have you Lisa?

Okay you guys, I think I have a problem. I need to start a plantaholics anonymous group or something, lol. Guess what I'm doing right now? I'm contemplating ordering more seeds. Tree seeds. Specifically, a couple of varieties of dogwood and some black locust. I also looked at the sakura trees, but I'm not as tempted by those. Does anyone here have experience with these fine trees? (Yes, Birdman, I'm looking at you, haha)

Edit: Okay, not that it really matters, but I'm scratching the black locust from my list. It's toxic

I'll settle for the honey locust seedling I uprooted earlier and have waiting in a pot for Spring.

i do love honey locust, just remember as you should with any tree how big they get. dogwoods have lots of different uses in landscapes, one of my favorites is the red twig dogwood bush, i love the color in winter. i love the history that goes with sakura trees, i mean washington dc sure would look different if we did not get them as gifts. i love the smell of them in flower. and those big fluffy flowers
