Utah!

red, I was going to ask you if you were doing fodder too when I read your post.   I don't recall it being stinky.   Like Lisa said, rinse it a couple of times a day in the first few days.  I also sprayed it.  I haven't done any yet this winter..have you Lisa?

Yes I have :D Since about Thanksgiving maybe? maybe the week after...I have been giving them one flat per day, but there are so many chickens it is just a little snack lol. I have tons of wheat left so it is a cheap way to supplement their diet at least. I love seeing something green growing! Every year I get herb seeds in the fall on clearance, plant them in the window just before Christmas. I am a little late this year, I got them planted a week or so ago, but they are starting to come up. Then I put them all in the garden in May. I have Rosemary, Sweet basil, Curled and Flat Parsley, marjoram, greek oregano, lemon Thyme, a few others. I need to set the folding tables upstairs in the spare room and get some other starts going in a couple weeks, I especially want to get my marigolds and tomatoes going early so they are nice and big this year. I have a portable greenhouse (really simple just put together with metal tubes and fold up plastic goes over it, kind of cheesy but it works if I keep it out of the wind) that I like to get squash and pumpkins going in towards April out on my patio. Man I am getting the bug too just listening to you guys haha :D

Red, there is a place here, called "blacksmith fork conservation district' http://www.uacd.org/zones/Zone1/BlackSmithFork/index.html you can buy trees and bushes in lots of ten for REALLY cheap. The order usually goes in the first part of march, you can go to their site and peruse what they have, if you wanted anything I would be glad to pick it up for you. You can only do it once a year. We have landscaped our yard from this source, it is so much cheaper than buying from the greenhouse. We planted those poplar trees I have posted pictures of that big bird of prey sitting in, from this place, they were just 18 inch branches and have grown to be huge trees. We have gotten all our lilacs and honeysuckle there...those are the ones lining my back yard along the fence, if you remember seeing them, they grew pretty fast too.

I just checked and they don't have the sale posted yet, it is under the "tree sale" tab. It should be coming up anytime, I always order in the first part of February. I will try to post it again when I see it. You can get ten bushes or trees for the price of one at the greenhouse.

i do love honey locust, just remember as you should with any tree how big they get. dogwoods have lots of different uses in landscapes, one of my favorites is the red twig dogwood bush, i love the color in winter. i love the history that goes with sakura trees, i mean washington dc sure would look different if we did not get them as gifts. i love the smell of them in flower. and those big fluffy flowers

I love honey locusts, too. The mother tree that this baby sapling came from is at least 60 years old and is huge. Excellent shade tree, and it's gorgeous in both Summer and Fall. Size is one reason I decided to try a transplant. I want a big tree

I didn't know, though, that the honey locust can have thorns. Neither the mother tree nor the male tree we have out front has thorns, but this little one is developing them.

If I could, I would love to have a beech tree. One of my great-something grandfathers was a botanist who settled in Nephi. There is still a male red beech tree there that was his. It's one of very, very few in this area of the country. When I was little, there were only two of them. There may be more now, I dunno.

I also want to get a sprout from our crab apple tree.

Yes I have

And sorry for infecting you with the gardening madness, lol. I can't help it. I'm terribly excited! So many seeds, not enough pots and planters.

I love planting and gardening too. Too difficult to think about right now.

I bought a bunch of combination locks, and my coop is all padlocked. Of course yesterday, the little *(&*^ came back and tore the chicken wire away from the post, making a big hole. So, locks won't completely fix things. The police are involved now, and hopefully it'll be the end of things.

That little turd needs to be in trouble, at this age he really needs to understand being kind to animals, respecting people's property, all that....or he is headed for some serious juvie as a teen! I hope they give him the riot act and set him on the straight and narrow path.

Sad to hear about all the trouble he has caused you and your neighbor...hope so much you don't see him around anymore.! Winter is hard enough for our girls as it is, without being terrorized.
