Utah!

Sphinx! Awesome info! Thanks! I just overloaded my Binsea Mini (I have 10 eggs in there... BIG EGGS!) So I am turning by hand until I candle at day 5 and pull the quitters. But that is awesome info on the bator! Do you know what angle you have the incubator set on? From the manual, it looks like it should be set on 8, but I'm not sure. Thanks for your help! I have dubbed you the Brinsea Mini Queen.

Madchicken, nice plant! It looks very healthy.

I have had quite the up-and-down day today, and it's finishing out on a downer note. When I was turning off the chicken lights tonight, I heard someone snuffling. Like really noticeable, phlegmy snuffling. One of my younger girls outside seems to be sick

If I shove her into the coop where it's warmer, she'll probably get the other hens in there sick. I can't put her in the garage like I normally would, because the Seramas are in there and the last thing I need is to lose another one of them. I feel so bad that she's out in the cold right now. I'm going to be worrying all night.

So depending on how things go tonight and how she is in the morning, I might just cage her and stick her in the bathroom to let her warm up and recover. I think I still have some denegard around here somewhere, and the girls will be getting a shot of vitamins in their morning hot toddy. Am I a creep for not bringing her in tonight?

Madchicken, that petunia sounds like it'll be really interesting. You'll have to keep us posted on that cross.

Red, what ended up happening with your snuffly chicken?

One of my friends has had a respiratory illness going through her hens. A vet confirmed it to be Mycoplasma Gallisepticum. She's trying to decide whether to cull or not. It's a tough decision. I dunno. On one hand, I hate the idea of spreading disease. But I hate the idea of culling my entire flock, only to have the new flock infected by a random sparrow. Some sources I've read say that 99% of chickens in the US are carriers. What would you guys do?

I don't think I could cull my entire flock unless they were all desperately ill and culling was a mercy for them. Even then, I'd have a hard time with it.

My snuffly girl is still snuffling, but she was acting fine otherwise this morning. I gave the girls some vitamins in their morning drink, so we'll see if that helps. I beefed up their feed a bit with game bird pellets, too. If the pullet in question starts to worsen, I'll grab her and put her in the bathroom for a few days.

Also, not chicken related, but if anyone here who likes gardening is interested, I'm starting an experiment with seeds and tracking it on my blog: http://thedesertpicker.blogspot.com/2014/02/the-great-seed-experiment.html

Feel free to observe!

Just went out to feed the chickens and put them to bed and found my bantam RIR rooster under the coop really sick. I don't think he is going to make it through the night. He has been sick for a little while but i thought he was getting better. This really bums me out since i just got rid of two little roosters from him. I guess this means my splash Silkie will be my new top rooster.

Oh, no! So sorry

Maybe he will still pull through. Do you have any vitamins you can give him?
