Utah!

I bought two BO chicks last night to replace my speculated barred rock rooster chick... Came home tonight and my so called rooster appeared to be sitting on one of the BO chicks with the other under a wing. Is this normal behavior for a rooster? Very motherly don't you think?

Thats so cute! I had a few that did that last year with the younger chicks. But maybe they were huddling to be warm. I don't know that chick has a lot of white barring in there. And Males are extremely white. But its really messy barring. Usually the males are extremely barred white, but its more unified, if that makes sense. I still lean towards Roo with all that white. You could always wait a week or so. By 6-7 weeks of that comb is red you should know. :D

His comb is already turning red. At first I thought he was being mean and smothering the chick. He seems pretty attached to those little chicks. Found him again this morning standing above them. I removed my ad on ksl. Guess I'll keep him for a bit longer. Free baby sitter.

Oh, also, they hatched 2/23.
Awesome. I should really start writing these things down. The more I have hatched, the less methodical I have been. Now it's just "throw 'em in and wait til they hatch" kind of style! Haha. I just put them outside for their first time tonight.

Hi I joined BYC not too long ago, and I'm soo glad I found this thread!!! I can't wait to start showing off my new babies yay!

Hahaha. That's awesome. You gotta love a roo that takes his fatherly responsibilities seriously.... Those are hard to come by! ;) ;) haha

Silly, I forgot to answer you earlier. I got married and moved to Tooele :)

We sent our black Ameraucana roo to freezer camp today. I was going to ksl him, but he was just mean and I figured he'd taste good. I'm looking forward to dumplings :)

Thanks Acemario! :D

So far in the brooder I've got:
1 light brahma
1 barred rock
1 austrolorp
1 silver laced Wyandotte
4 super fluffy hatchery ameraucanas (Easter eggers) in 4 different colors - these are the fluffiest I've ever had!
1 golden laced cochin bantam
1 black silkie

And I hope to get 1 buff Orpington and 1 Rhode Island Red to round out my laying flock...and a few more pet bantams (Cochins and silkies!)
Oh and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that these are all pullets lol!!! :fl
If you can't tell me and my hubby like a rainbow of chickens for the yard lol. ;)

They are all up in the corner cause I needed to get a decent pic of them in the brooder .

My friend (blujems) has two incubators for sale, still air, w/o turner, they are nearly new she used them maybe two times.... She would like $40 ea if anybody on here wants another bator.

Where is the best place in Salt Lake City to process chickens for meat? What are typical prices and turn around?

I actually process my own. I believe there are others on here who have taken their birds to someone and could tell you what they paid. Sorry I'm not more helpful :/

WildWestChick, cute babies!
