Utah!

Oh my goodness Karen...lol..I was going to say that..too bad the wet photo contest isn't still open!!! That's great..lol..Ha, I am loving the look on the last one like she's saying...What..are you looking at? You never seen a wet chicken before??

No my girls have never gone out in the snow or the rain, they all hang out in their mega huge coop, they have food and water in there, plus 9 ft by 12 ft of dirt floor, or they will go out, but they go under my huge pine tree pretty much no snow or even rain gets through that tree, so its usually fully dry or just damp under there, and they have at least a 20 foot round area there. So no I've never seen them wet. And they are really wet. I looked out the window, and at first I thought they got locked down there. Nope they are out in the mud. The rest was up in the coop, but when I came out they all came running looking for treats. I couldn't believe how different their color looks. I just had to laugh at them. The black/silver partridge I have is the funniest looking.

Now they are okay, right? I don't have to bring them in later to dry off. I was starting to worry about that, because they are still out there, and its just raining like anything.

No my the Ameraucana's that I have left, I only have 2 here, my friend took the rest. They are still puffy cheeks. I just was meaning all the fluffy puffy feathers, their fuzz. They are all getting feathers in so their not looking all fuzzy anymore.

I did send my neighbor a message on Facebook, and I tried to keep it as nice as possible.... just saying he was out, and got into my backyard, and I didn't feel safe with him being loose.

maybe my chick has 'little chick syndrome' ;) where she has to act like the biggest bully to show she's superior :p
I used to have 15 hens and the worst ones were my Sicilian Buttercups. They are tiny chickens but they sure bullied everyone else around.

Karen, it's going to get real cold tonight, I would make sure they are in the coop for sure...they should be fine though as long as they dry off in the coop tonight. Tooo funny. Still smiling.

grrr... I keep trying to make these chickies a 'time out' place, but I keep failing. I tried putting them in a box with a screen, inside their current (50 gallon) rubbermaid brooder, and they did something with their water so it got all of their bedding wet... I have a second container set up next to the main brooder, and it will probably work ok.... but I wish they'd just be nice so they can all be together!

what are your best methods at "disciplining" your chicks when they're bullying a chick?

I have a large wooden box that I put everyone in and then I got creative and bought some chicken wire and molded it into a box shape and placed it into the same box to put smaller chicks in. You could make as many as you want and use it like a divider. I found this works great to seperate chicks all different ages and get them all used to eachother while keeping them safe. They can still sleep together and get used to eachother easier this way and when they seem ready you can just take it out and put them all together. Might work in this situation.

Do you think I need to bring them inside to dry off first. They are now out in the backyard in the grass, and they are just soaked. And yes, they can get in the main coop, the shipping crate coop, and now since they are out in the back yard, they can even go under the deck, or the kids play house, they love that play house. Maybe because Ryan makes them pretend tea with treats. Hahaha, she loves her chickens what can I say.

I just can't believe they are outside in the rain like that, and its still raining. I guess its not bugging them. And they are so much more muddy now, they really were out in the mud digging. Guess its a perfect worm day.

Have you tried putting things to distract them in the brooder? A large clump of grass (roots and all) or hang a mirror or even putting a shallow dish of dirt for them to bathe and scratch in. You could also put several stones of various heights around for them to play king of the mountain on. Sometimes all they need is a distraction. Tie up bundles of dandelions and hang them down so they can peck at them and let them swing. If you give them anything other than chick feed they need access to grit though.

I will have to try something like that.... I put in another roost that was a bit higher than their current one... It's a bit tight on extra space in there, so I'll have to figure out something that won't take up much space :D thanks!

Iluvmysilkies, did you just have extra feeders/waterers to put in your little separators?
