Utah!

There were 2 free frizzle bantams (with all supplies) posted on KSL for just a few minutes and only 8 views, right close to me (Summit County). I immediately called and they were arranged for pickup. :hit I'm hoping they didn't go for snake food... seems there's lots of reptile lovers up this way.

That's nuts! I saw 4 silkie chicks listed for free this weekend too. People must not know what they have!

I am with you, I would not want to eat a bird that may have an infection. I would likely put her down as an alternative....if she is not living a quality life as a pet. Don't those meat birds get real heavy and then the legs can't support them well? I thought Someone had said that to me somewhere along the road, that keeping them long term did not work. Poor girl, sad when they get sick.
Crazy the frizzles were posted for free. They are the one chicken that everybody seems to want...
Yeah, these meaties have an expiration date -- that's how I can process them (except no one told me they are sweet (as in friendly) birds! Makes that day kinda tough but I hold them and thank them. Dorky I know. If I restrict her food intake I may be able to keep her weight down, dunno (?). I do know they will lay eggs because once we were slow to process and the hens had eggs that were developing. If I feel her quality of life won't be there, I could process her for my dogs and just cut around that bad thing if it's still there. Probably no worse than the potguts and moles they've found.
On yet another sidenote... there's several ratty old coops up for sale in SL. Hmmmm.... that's all I'm sayin.

Quote: I actually talked to this lady about those chicks and almost picked them up haha but last min decided not to because on further pictures I could tell they werent the quality I wanted. All but one didnt really have crests and some looked male yet she wanted me to take them all. It was a spontanious desire to get them but then I remembered my ultimate goal to get the extra fluffy super nice babies so I didnt.

So I was right, that little EE/Icee Mix that I got from RedIII eggs is officially a Rooster

Any takers on him before I post him on KSL? He's jet black, with very puffy cheeks. He's so cute. But this morning before the snow hit, he was out there screaming up a storm. Sounded like a dying Goose really. But he was trying for a good hour. So I'm really going to have to find him a home pretty fast. And he is sure loud.

He's 10 weeks old.

I saw them too, but figured they were old enough to most likely be roo's... maybe I'm just too wary of owners dishonestly ditching their roos. I drew the short stick for roo's last yr -- ordered 9 antwerps, 7 were roos!...and I don't have the heart to get rid of them).

There are a couple young silkies on KSL right now but they don't have the extra fluff you're looking for. Also this silky talk is making me miss our house silkie "Betsy" we had (rescued from mega-mites). I loved how she laid her egg in the huge dog bed every day. RIP Bets <3

I found 1 more chick under my broody outside. It must have hatched today. Its blue with white feathers here and there. Its still trying to get its footing. Also added a picture of the cream colored one, wondering on the color. Anyone have any guesses?
