Utah!

Hello, love to join the hen party! I'm in Utah county! Anyone interested in group buys on grain to sprout for fodder for this winter?
Welcome mamadawn! I live in Springville :) I'd say that I'd join in on the grain sprouting, but I've never done it, and with my luck.... and my lovely black thumb... I'd probably kill it! hah!

It's just my opinion, and I know considering your circumstances you hv to do what you need to, but for the chicken -- I think it's way too early to join the coop and from under lights. That's my take away from her behavior.

You worked magic and pulled her through what was most likely impossible, I wouldn't compromise her health now. Birds (of any kind) will hold out their best behavior till they are literally at death's door, it's a self-reservation nature thing.
Ya I probably normally wouldnt have put her back in with them but it was a VERY busy day and I wasent going to be able to focus on her, and thought she'd be better off in there. Especially since she was already starting to eat again. I had to go register at the hospital, which ive been needing to do for a while, since im scheduled to go have my baby on the 19th :) And we had to finish cleaning house, backyard, and set up for a party we threw that night to kinda welcome the baby and celebrate her coming with family :)

This morning she seems even more almost like normal. She came right out of the coop with everyone else and started eating food. Everyone else was more interested in the water first and I put her over by it but she was more interested in the food. So I will just watch her and her behavior today and see if I need to keep giving her fluids. I figure if she's eating, then she probably knows how to drink but I dont know. I just feel like her flock would demonstrate through example and help her progress faster then I could.

Is this the little partridge I got from you? Soo cute. I see she had a really nice beard.. Will that beard return?? She really dosent seem to have one right now or it's really thin. I am a sucker for the bearded silkies so I am hoping it comes in :)

I am pretty sure that is the same one there was a dark and a light, and that one looks like the darker one that went to you :D I think beard wise anything could happen. They change so much through the stages of losing fluff and gaining feathers!

Cynthia---October, that is coming soon, yay! I bet you will be sooo glad to have him back safe and sound. Be sure to give us a pic!

My DD turns 19 today! Wow, that happened fast. Excited to spend some time with her today eating cake and telling her how cute she is :S

Liz wrote this morning and my silkie chicks she is hatching are hatching, yay! A white silkie and blue showgirl so far, she is seeing about two dozen moving and pipping. Excited to have some fuzzies around. Pics a little later in the week after I pick them up. Unless she posts some first :p

I got my girls back from the fair late last night, got them all dusted up and they slept like logs. They were sooo tired when we got home, too much excitement. They are getting a nice breakfast this morning for being such troopers. Ernie and Yoshi slept in a little pile together, it surprised me how well they seem to get along. My Houdan got into the water in her fair cage, spilled it i think and between that and eating off the floor of her cage at the fair, she came back all stringy and yellow in her crest and beard, so she needs another bath. yay....

Red--good luck on your hunt!

I plan on going to the Box Elder fair once or probably twice. It has always been a very nice show and well worth the effort to attend and see the birds. So if those of you interested in same, would pick a time and date, I'll make it work for me whenever you folks decide. As an aside, I was wondering if there is a place somewhere in this thread to hold and list the dates of the local area fairs? And if there is, then we could all post our local show, and those wishing to visit could find the address and dates with ease. I don't know if a state thread can have such a thing as a sticky or just how it would or could be done, but someone might. I also try to see the nearby Idaho shows as well, Franklin County in Preston, Grace, Downey, Montplier, Malad and sometimes Evanston, Wyoming.

The Morgan County fair might be good as well? Anyone gone to it? I put up my electric hen today, the Bantys will be five weeks old on the morrow. I really like how spunky the mighty mights are, a lot of chest bumping going on in there. Offered my first small handful of scratch to them today as well. They love fresh corn on the cob as well… most anything in the fruits and vegetables section.

Sundance, I think I have a nice picture of Jackson that I'll put up tonight, when it gets moved to my computer. He did not have a cage card when I saw him and the nice hen. So I was not sure it was yours until I got home and checked your photo listing. He is very, very nice indeed. Are you able to hatch eggs from your little ones?

Anyway best to all and your birds,

RJ

My show hens are just starting to lay. I just set some in the incubator. I am keeping some sizzle chicks and silkies to raise the serama babies. Much better than incubator. Probably next year

bitsyhorse- My gals love any kind of sprouted grain. It will be a great fresh green for the winter months. If you want to try it let me know! I'm in Provo. Do you know if the Spanish Fork Fair has a good poultry show?

unfortunately, in the 7 years I've been here, I've never been!

what's all involved with sprouting? what would I need for it, and how much would it cost to get the grain?
