Utah!

Just wanted to share some pics of what we're getting!

Awww. It still won't let me load any pictures of my giant sunflowers

Those things are at least seven feet tall! Oh well.

The apples are from trees in our neighbor's yard. They told us we could have them, since they don't ever use them. I threw a few mushy ones out to the ladies for treats

Our apples are behind I guess. The trees are soo full, maybe that's why. Nice little harvest there for sure.

Who is the dad to the LF EE?
Not sure of the rooster. She came to me as a new hatched chick with her mom. I got the hen from Sundance but it wasn't her mom since the hen i bought was a bantam RIR. She is white with a few odd black feathers, she is a true mutt but she lays a sky blue egg almost every day. The chick that just hatched is black with a grey beard. I hope the grey stays.

We just picked all of our peaches last night. It is the first year for our tree so we only got about seven. Green as grass but the birds were pecking them apart!! They did the same to our apricots before they were ripe too! So frustrating. I guess we are going to have to net the trees in the future.

Well, I officially have a broody silkie. She started spending more time in the coop about a week and a half ago.

We had a crazy few days with our 13 yr old in the hospital with a head injury. He is doing great! It was touch and go for a couple of days but he ended up not needing surgery and is home now and totally irritated that he couldn't go to the first day of seventh grade. :) I never thought I would be so excited to have an irritable, ornery teenager! He was doing well enough by saturday that my husband even talked me in to running my race. Life is GOOD!

Anyway...now that we're home, I can see that Popcorn is serious about wanting to be a mama. I'm debating on trying to break her or just letting her sit on some eggs. What have you all found to be the best thing?

Oh wow..I can relate to being scared in the hospital as of late. I am soo happy that things worked out. Isn't it interesting how we find that we have taken a few things for granted until something scary happens? So happy you have your..teen.. back. :) We have our Lisa back too, and she can be a handful at times, but it just doesn't bother me the way it used to.

Broody hen? It's up to you if you want to have chicks out there in a few weeks, as it gets colder. Do you have a good place for them?

Thanks Cynthia! It's true, you can never take anything for granted! Quinn has always liked to keep us on our toes. I'm just so grateful that we have Primary Children's Hospital so close. Everyone there is amazing and has always taken such great care of our entire family when Quinn has gotten to be there! I'm so happy to hear that Lisa is doing well. :)

As far as chickens, I do have a really nice heated shed that the chickies could hang out in when it gets cold. The weather really is the only thing that has me questioning whether or not it would be a good idea. If it were spring I would have no reservations about letting her hatch a few babies. Has anyone had fall chicks before? How well do they do?

they do just fine---but numbers helps, the body heat from others at night helps a ton to keep them warm. They can handle some cold after about 4 weeks if there are lots...otherwise 6 weeks....they really do better than you would think with lower wattage heat light to sit under at night and snuggling. After 8 weeks it surprised me how they wander around away from the heat and seem fine during the day.
