Gary, does your sister still plan on coming tomorrow morning? I will probably have the chicken caught and ready, and Scott will help her. I have the start of a very bad sore throat. :/ I haven't had a cold in over a yr. so, I guess I can't complain. Ummm...yes I can! She
Yes she is still coming to get her. I built a temp place for her until i get home from work tomorrow. I cant wait to hatch some eggs from her. Probable be around Christmas right, should make for some great Christmas presents!!!

Rural, thanks for the video. You sure have some beautiful birds! I wish I was closer to Idaho and Pawtrait, lol. Or maybe it's a good thing I'm not - I'd be overrun with turkeys
Re the flies problem, we have had an abundance of them this year. They are driving me crazy! I will be happy when the frosts arrive and cut down on those things.
And the maggots - I have had both beetles and their larvae surface in some of my pens while cleaning. I just flip them over to the chickens and then proceed with my chores. Hey, free chicken treats. It's gross, but it happens.
Gary, cute fuzzbutts, as always
Shoot, I think I missed someone :/ Hope everyone else is well.
One of this years fawns must have gotten hit by a car, near the Little Bear River bridge, about two miles from me. Over head in a tree were about five of these… things. I am not used to seeing them in Cache Valley, they are a new bird in the area. However we broke out the camera and captured a few shots of the Turkey Vultures as they waited overhead to do their grizzly task on the fawn, clean up duty.
I find them kind of creepy, best seen in cartoons and or old black and white Death Valley western movies. Nature has, it would seem, everything covered, nothing goes to waste, all things have their place in the system. I think these overhead would send my birds a running as fast as their little short fat legs would carry them. A chick would not even make a snack for these fellows. Anyway I've a couple of photographs that might be of interest to a few of you.
I estimate the wing span to be at least seven feet. Beautiful things in a morbid way.

Speaking of flies, I have been seeing a lot of flies over the past few days or so. More so than I have seen all year. Is it…well, flie season or is it just me? Anyone else seeing the ugly little black things round the yard in abundance? Perhaps the grizzled sages
Well I am not a grizzled sage but I know that they HATE the vanilla trees you put in your car. If you buy the vanilla flavor and hang them around your coop the flies stay away. We buy three of them and put them inside our covered porch and it keeps them from coming into the house. Works like a charm!
We have these all over out here. One of the first times I came out here to Park Valley I went for a walk and saw several perched on a fence just... watching me! I had to explain to them that I wasn't planning on expiring any time soon and they needed to kindly move on!! I have never seen them in Cache Valley so it was quite a shock to see so many out here.
