it has been a long time how are you? I am finally starting to get better. I'll be leaving for Phoenix in about 4 weeks. Taking my little Seramas with me and the neighbor is tending my layers. how are the geese.
 
Any recommendations on the most economical place to buy feed, scratch and other supplies in North Davis County?
 
Well... my silkie decided she didn't want to start out her egg laying life in the nest boxes. Yesterday, I noticed there was an egg outside of the nest box, after realizing it was hers, I watched her today as I let them out, and she came out and then disappeared... I thought maybe she had gone under our shed, but after looking under there, and not seeing her, I was stumped! So I sat and waited for 20 - 30 min waiting to see where she'd come out from. Then I noticed a slight movement under the kids' playhouse slide! There she was.... and 5 eggs! (She was just laying an egg, not going broody). I guess she never figured out that she had to lay in the nest boxes. And I guess my Buff Orp that has been laying for a few months, decided that she had to add a couple to that spot too! grrr! (second egg wasn't pictured here, because I had taken it, and THEN took a pic lol) I put them back in their run, and told them they were grounded for a week until they could all learn to lay in the nest boxes! Silly birds.

(sidenote: they all should know where to be laying, as I've had hens doing it for some time now... and had wooden eggs in the boxes before they started laying. I think my Silkie just forgot as she was out free ranging that she had to go back into the coop, and then decided it was a good place to continue laying)
 
Well it's day 23 today and still no chicks hatching from under Dixie. Gotta say I'm feeling pretty nervous that none are going to hatch :s shouldn't they have hatched already?

Not necessarily. Mine hatched on day 23ish with my broody. Perhaps it's the cooler weather?
