Utah!

I have buff orpingtons but I am trying to figure out what I want next.
Austrolorps are great birds. They are docile, beautiful, great layers, and are a good size. Wyandottes are another great dual purpose bird too. Ours are fantastic.

I should add that it isn't uncommon to have both austrolorps and Wyandottes go broody. That is something to consider. But I'm sure with orpingtons you are familiar with that.:)

Somebody please! Post pictures of the icelandics! I would love to see! I have bielfelders, red orps, spangled-mottled orps, crele orps, jubilee orps, white orps, red cuckoo orps, choc and choc cuckoo orps, English orps, mauve and mauve cuckoo, Ahhh... Moving on... I have blue wyandottes, barred wyandottes, blue laced red wyandottes, blue marans, blue copper marans, blue Wheaton hen and splash Wheaton roo, oh yes and the penedesencas (black and crele barred). Oh yes in there somewhere I forgot the lavender orps! Do I need more? Oh I think I do! Oh and I inquired a young pair of black polish. Don't really fit in to what I have but they sure are interesting. Lol

What kind of layers are Icelandics? They are beautiful. I need beauty coupled with good laying ability. But what is this need business?? I don't need anymore. I'm actually at the limit of how many I'm allowed by law. I just keep trying to think of ways to justify them to myself. Alas, the life of a chicken keeper.
I think *need* is exactly the word you're looking for. :)

I need help! I have 5 RIR that aren't laying anymore. At this time I need to just get rid of them. Does anyone want them or know anyone that would want them? I am in the Ogden area. They are free to anyone that wants them. Thanks

Put them on ksl for free. Some families will usually take them to process. Just a thought.

Alas, my phone will not upload photos tonight!

I've never had Jersey Giants, but there's someone on BYC named the old chick that keeps a lot of them. She only ever keeps hens, so I'd assume she gets enough eggs from them for what she needs. And she has a rooster named Stan..... :D

Lisa, you are on my Icelandic list! We will get you a pullet, yet.

Gus, the Icelandics are decent little layers, but mine are sure moody. If I pen them, they go on strike. If I let them run free, they lay in every inconvenient place they can find. Boo.

Does anyone have a black or blue copper Marans hen or pullet they want to sell? About to lay or already laying. I need one or two.

Now?

Aww, it only let me upload two tonight. If you want to see some more lovely Icelandics, trip on over to the Icelandic thread :)

Acemario, that is hilarious! You understand exactly.

Red, Icelandics sound like my kind if chicken. I'm pretty well salivating over them. I free range my birds, but my yard isn't acres. I wonder if they would be happy. We keep our girls less as pets, more for eggs, but their happiness is of paramount importance to me. Just for information, how would you say they would do in a mixed flock? I acquired some gold sexlinks and BR, and have not been impressed with their manners. Very aggressive toward flock mates.

Another I would really love, now that you've all awoken my chicken parental instinct, is another Austrolorp or two. Are there any Austrolorp breeders in UT?

Gus, Icelandics do okay in a mixed flock, but they don't take no guff offa nobody ;) Mine are usually quite feisty, despite their small size. A few are very well behaved unless another hen cops an attitude, at which point there will be hackles raised. I do have one hen that is very dominant and can be bossy, but she's kind of nuts, anyway..... She has chased a neighbor across their own yard, lol *blush* I think she's extra special, though, because I've never heard of anyone else's hen doing that. But there you go.

The roosters are pretty respectful of me, and if you handle them a lot from a young age, some can be picked up or petted. I have a cockerel right now who lets me pet him while he is foraging by my feet.

They do alright in a smaller yard, but I can guarantee they will be taking themselves on field trips. They always come home at night, but they are wanderers. I got them because at some point, DH and I hope to live on 20 acres we have in Delta, and I was hoping for some smart birds to take care of themselves. I do love them, though. They are quirky :)

Red, that is all very interesting. I have some Wyandottes who go broody now and again, be sure to post you're getting eggs again.

Who was that said they have favorelles?
