So at the beginning of this hatch I put 33 eggs in the incubator and out of all those only 2 hatched and 1 needed help but is doing much better now. There is one more egg that needed help but it's still in the bator trying to make it. So discouraging having that bad of a hatch but this is all new to me and is great for learning so I know what to do for future hatches I'm just happy I got what I did next time will be much better! on a better note here are the ones that hatched so cute. I think the white one that's drying out may be a splash. I dunno.

Cuties! Yes, my first hatch was under a broody, and I let someone, who claimed experience, convince me that she could take 15 eggs. She covered them all, but only 4 hatched. I will forever be bothered that I didn't question more. But we learn as we go, I guess.

My BEI hens are hunkered down on nests right now. The first hatching should be next Weds. I am hoping to have some crested ducklings. None of the adults are crested but one of my drakes must carry the gene. Last year I had several crested babies. I am saving up to get some dutch hookbills from Holldereads. I can hardly wait. I was hoping to get them for Mother's Day, but my children don't understand my duckaphilia. They still think I would rather have chocolates.

my chickens have been known to sleep close too lol. and when it comes to laying they can have several nest boxes but will all want the same one lol. chickens can be silly like that lol.

you will have to post pics!!! I have been considering ducks, and I liked the idea of the BEI's, and was looking at possibly getting some.... but I'm also REALLY love the looks of the mini silver appleyards.
