Utah!

I feel your pain. I'm super paranoid about my last frizzle from them turning out to be a rooster too. I check that comb daily.

Also, when do wattles on females come in? My frizzle is getting them now and they're bright red. She is only 7 weeks. Something to be concerned about or is that normal for cochin hens? The comb is still small (nearly hidden by those curly feathers).
I'll take some pictures later if I can, but she's difficult to get nice photos of.

Suddenly buying those three extra chicks doesn't seem like it was such a bad idea, considering of the 8 chicks I have 2 are definite roosters... At least on is pint sized. He can hardly be considered a chicken at this point.
I know how you feel only I didn't overbuy enough. I got 7 "sexed" pullet EEs hoping to make sure we got 4 egg layers. Ended up with 2 pullets out of the bunch.

Was hoping to be done with the brooder, but I got 4 more "Ameraucanas" from Cal ranch hoping they are pullets like they say. The kids want blue eggs! I know they are EEs and not AMs. :)

It's a rude awakening to post pictures of your first Ameraucanas only to have 14 poeple tell you that you have EEs.

It is good to know though and everyone is really nice about breaking it to you. Then you get a real education on Ameraucanas and a whole new respect for the breed.

I'm under the general impression you can not trust Cal Ranch. Hopefully my Australorps from them turn out to be girls. Considering all the hassle I've gotten doing business with them, I won't be purchasing from them again. In fact, we're pretty sure over here that we'll just be buying hatching eggs from now on, just hoping one of our chickens makes a good mother (like that cochin I hope is a girl!!!).

If you hadn't already gotten some more from there I would have recommended seeing if Desert Springs had any Ameraucanas left. I just checked their FB page and they'd posted they were reducing prices on the chicks to get them out of there.

EDIT: Me and typing today! I read back through my posts and key words or letters are just missing. Bah!

It was an impulse buy. I'm terrible with chicken math.

I was going to be done brooding and work with what I had. Then I was picking up some DE or something and saw "Ameraucana Pullets" for a couple bucks each. I didn't know that the hatcheries called EEs Ameraucanas. I thought they would be lower quality, but I did think they would be Ameraucanas. Now I know! If they give us some blue eggs (and are pullets) then I will be happy. If not, we have another BBQ meal coming in a few months.

Maybe you do just want to see if Desert Springs might have a pullet for you. ;]
I'd give you one of mine if I weren't so paranoid. I keep thinking, I have my Ameraucanas- But what if something happens? What if a coon gets one? What if the dog gets one? What if one gets eggbound? What if one dies of exposure? What if one doesn't lay a blue egg?!
Then I just hover over them protectively searching for unforeseen danger.

EDIT: My neighbors have had EEs for several seasons now and all of his have laid bluish green eggs. I don't think they've ever been entirely satisfied because when I talk to them the wife always mentions she wished they had blue eggs.

This 8 week Bantam cock-a-doodled this morning - Very funny to watch. PM me if you absolutely need him in your flock otherwise back to IFA. My third rooster from them....

Oh man, I would so love to have him, just not sure a collar would work on him. He and my girl I got from Cal Ranch would be great breeders. I love her. She really turned out pretty.
Those of you looking to get bantams at these feed stores, need to know, they are always straight run...maybe you know, The other breeds, should be 99.9 percent pullets. I think an occasional boy gets in there.

eggs..post photos..here is my little cochin girl.

I picked out two bantam cochins at Cal Ranch. One turned out to be a frizzle. Gave her
to a friend. This one sure turned out to be a beauty. I got her in April.

Which Cal Ranch is this? Man, I always buy my egg layers there in the spring. Never had a problem, always girls here in the Spanish Fork place. EE's too.

West Jordan one for me, not sure about sideWing.
I work south of the point so I go to the cal in American Fork. I really don't much blame the Cal Ranch folks. They usually get chicks from a hatchery and put the invoice title on the sticker on the brooder and call it a day. You would have to know quite a bit to get them all right. Not sure I could do it. And I'm sure folks put them in the wrong brooder and what not from time to time.

Maybe I'm just being harsh because one of the employees was very mean to our puppy. I can let go of a great many things, but I draw the line at being rude to me or my animals.

So the wattles are little but they are red. Still looking like a pullet? Right? Please let this chick be a girl... Sorry I couldn't get a better picture of the wattles.

Look at this little roo monster! He's so cute.

Their beaks look like they are getting overgrown but I'm afraid I'll trim them too much. I'm going to try feeding them on some stone to see if I can get those beaks under control.
