Utah!

Hmmm....when you spend fifteen minutes cooing and talking through the wire at your favorite silkie....then she turns around...and you realize you were talking to the wrong end.....

That is an awesome list of birds you are keeping Lisa!

I have kept Road Island Reds (RIR) in the past for eggs, but this is my first real year of "poultry keeping". My boys wanted to sell eggs to make some money and it all blew up from there. We have been selling out of eggs for $3.50 a dozen.

Here is what we have in the flock at this point. (it's always in flux

)

Laying flock:
16 Gold Sex Links (GSL) - we get 16 eggs a day many days!
2 Leprechauns - Easter Egger/ Leghorn mix - Eggs are not blue enough. :(
2 EE pullets
2 EE cockerels (sold as pullets - leaving soon)

Lavender Wyandotte Project
5 Lavender Wyandottes - Four months old. I'm afraid we have all pullets. Better than all cockerels I guess.

8 Silver Laced Wyandotte
2 - Cockerel (hatchery grade)
4 - pullets - just starting to lay (hatchery grade)
2 - 3 week old chicks that are supposed to be show quality (SQ) I think it's a male and female

1 Black Copper Marans Cockerel (Thanks La Casa De Pollo!)
1 Black CM pullet 4 months old
11 Bev Davis BCM from Julie Akers just arrived two days ago!
1 Golden Cuckoo Marans
1 Blue copper cockerel (needs to go)
1 Black copper cockerel (needs to go)

Barred Easter Egger Project - Shipped eggs from one of the guys that got the Ameracauna breed accepted into the APA. (This lot is for sale)
4 cockerels
7 pullets

1 Bantam barnyard mix

25 Cornish cross (until October)

Some of this stock is at a friends place. He has an acre.

Folks,

Nice listings of birds, dreams and aspirations are a big part of the hobby for me as well. I like the projects I see listed and the ambition to see something through. It always seems to me that that next egg to hatch will be the one… and then the next, etc. etc. is alive and well here on the board. Seeing ones birds grow out and color up is just a ton of fun.

Regarding Lisa's pun on the previous page, speaking to the wrong end, well that may be why I favor birds with clean legs and not puffy heads. I most often know which end is which with mine. The other type, I can see how that could happen.

Sidewing, love the egg project for the children. I highly favor such things, real life lessons learned. Your kids are quite lucky…

Best to all and your flock(s)…

I have 5 new babies. Black chicks, and white from the white leghorn..of course. I am hoping that these blacks are OE's. I was soo surprised to see blacks. Where is the blue? Blue Copper Maran dad. Hmmm..I am thinking they will have the red go down the head and neck as I am seeing brown spots on the first one. Surprise here, they are all looking like girls but one so far. I have one more in a white egg working on it..white feathers...yep.

I have more of these same eggs in lock down. Guess I'll get more black chicks from the looks of it. Oh well, DH reminded me that I had said, that I needed a black hen or two out there. Hope I can sell little black chicks, that could be..OE layers. No promises though.

I would love to see some pics. I want to add a fan to my DIY bator and test it out, but I'm overflowing with chickens right now. Is it possible to sell barnyard mix chicks right now? Or even pure SLW?

Thanks RJ! Besides taking care of the laying flock, they had to come up with a business plan, they keep an accounting book, and track production. It's been a lot of fun and a good responsibility.
