Utah!

Ok I set eggs. Like every single one in sight. Some are muddy, I didn't have the self control to toss any. Scared to wash them much so I am closing my eyes and hoping. Crossies lol

Here we go hatching 2016. @Cynthia12 ...

It will be a miracle if they are very fertile. They were collected during that pretty bad cold snap. We'll see! Hoping the next batch will be better, the roos are starting to "participate".

I feel like I need to set my own for a bit until fertility goes back up I don't want to send hatching eggs that aren't hatching lol
I have had great fertility this winter, but I'm at a little lower elevation. I was pretty careful about grabbing the eggs before they froze.

Well 'heck' hath no furry like a unset egg! You guys are killing me here… Now I am a wanting to set some, and I do not even have a incubator. I might have to literally 'set' on mine.

SideWing, do you have a photograph or two of how you deployed your wire pens? I am looking to see how to 'engage' several of them, stacks or side by side?

Bitsy, like the picture stuff, Red, sorry about the cat. I just had a tad of drama with mine, I like my mammal a lot. Lisa, please control your self…

Does this help at all? 4 cages side by side. There was a really good website with measurements, but it was pretty easy to figure out. We cut and made our own doors and latches too. Top, bottom, and sides are one continuous piece.

I went to the planning commission meeting for Kaysville City and my application for a permit for chickens was approved, so now it is full steam ahead!

Congratulations!

exciting! my main advice.....build the coop and run first before you get any chicks.

Yes, yes! I agree!

Congrats Carrie!

RJ, that is a very cute lynx point you have :) She looks like a sweetheart.

Our kitty is home and recovering, so we're happy to have him back. And thank you for the firsthand input on Brahmas. I was right - my husband wants them. I sent him that "set all the eggs" picture and said he'd be on board if they were Brahma eggs. He freely admitted that yes, he would be :)

Thanks! I had to laugh, I read that in the voice from Disney's Robin Hood cartoon. My sister and I loved to watched that as children. We still quote it and sing the song!

So Redlll would you like me to save you some Brahma eggs? If so just let me know. Just be aware they take a loooong time to lay. Mine finally started laying at 9 1/2 mos old and they are not large eggs when they do lay. But they are nice birds to have in many ways. The rooster is sweet enough. The hen is at the top of the pecking order and pushy but not mean to people and a good forager.

Sure! That would be lovely, thank you! I'm sure my husband would be tickled to have Brahma eggs for the incubator, too :)

Sambi, I hope your SG pulls through okay :( Boy I hate it when they're sick and we can't figure out why!

Ok, let me know exactly when you would like to incubate them so I can save them close enough to be fresh. She has been laying about 4 a week most weeks. I don't see him mate her as much as I do the older birds but I am not home all day so knowing how randy he is and how dirty her butt is, I would not doubt most if not all are fertile. I work in South Jordan and go to school 2 days a week at the U so I could meet you somewhere along those lines during the week but I do have most weekends off so could meet you half way on a weekend day.

Edit: I don't know how interested in backyard mutts you are but I also have some Easter Egger hens that the rooster lives with if you or anyone else wants to hatch a few mutts out. One lays a pretty light blue egg and one a green one.
