Utah!

I don't usually have this kind of bad luck with eggs..really! I did buy last year during the winter, but my hatches were good.

Yes, I would not be surprised if I do not get any chicks showing up this week. That would make me really disappointed in a good breeder..and a judge of chickens at that. I hope they come, now more because I would like to think better of this person.

Well, there's Shinx with her little one that she's working on. You, and your cute little one, and now my little EE still hangin in there. Come on chickies!

BITE MY TONGUE! MY CHICKS CAME ABOUT TEN MIN. AFTER WRITING THIS..DICK IS AN HONEST MAN.
Not only did he send me my chicks, but, I went to my paypal, and he had taken the money off for the first batch of eggs that I sent pics to him of, the same ones I sent to this thread. When he saw them, had written me back saying, don't put those in a botor, I'll send you more. Well, the more never has shown up, but he did send the chicks when he found out that the eggs never showed. The lady from the P.O. brought them to me, in her car..she said they should have come yesterday. Sending pictures now. :))

The baby EE is still hangin in the shell..I will check it out off and on today to see if I can pick on the shell some more.
hmmm..trying again..

Good news Cynthia, glad that happened to brighten up your morning! Yay ! :ya We needed good news today !
Red--My girl is the same. No egg, very little poop :( She is still hanging on though, there is still hope at the moment.
Sphinx, let us know how hulksmash is faring?

There were 14. None dead, but two are struggling. I got my electrolytes out, put some in the water container, but have feed the two with a syringe. I am hoping they do well.
Lisa, no egg, but is your chicken "acting" the same? Or is she more perky today?
Shinx, how about that little one. Does the leg look like it will be ok?
I think I'll go pick on my EE's shell now, and talk to it. :) The baby that is.

And to all my others! It is soo neat to hear babies peeping away in my house again. My DH was so good, he was scrambling to get my big bin filled and in for me. He's a sweetheart!

Good to hear no losses so far :) My girl is still the same, heaving/straining constant. No noise, very still. Motionless during her soak. Another aspirin this morning. No change :(

Omigosh, Cynthia, they are sooooo cute!! I'm glad they all survived the journey, and I hope the two shocked ones perk up quickly. I am so excited for you!!! I'm so glad you had a happy ending- I think being disappointed in people is one of the worst parts about it.

Honestly, I don't think Hulksmash's leg is ever going to be normal. Which breaks my heart because she's the only chick that is proper coloring for a GLW that I feel quite confident is a pullet. I'm pretty sure one of the other dark ones is a boy, and the other I lean towards girl, but I don't know. Hulksmash is much happier and moves a lot more without the hobble, so I'm thinking I may not have her wear it as much.

I candled my BLRW today. I figure it's very, very early in day four. I saw definite development in 5, and pretty sure I did in the final two, but my flashlight is dying, so it wasn't very bright. And all of the air cells were exactly where they're supposed to be. It's nice!

How often do you guys give your chickens worming medication? I had my last batch of chickens a good 18 months, and never did worm them. I never saw evidence that they needed it. Do you worm regardless, on a schedule, or do you wait for symptoms? I never gave my chickens anything other than food and water. I plan to use DE this time around.

I give mine a hefty dose of cayenne pepper in their food about once a month, it has worked so far :) I buy the big bottles of it at Sams. I read to sprinkle it on until their mash looks rusty, I am guessing I use 4-6 T per1 quart of food. They just gobble it up and seem fine with it, my eggs seems a little darker yellow right after it might be in my imagination...sure seems that way tho :)

I like to do this rather than meds so I do not have to throw eggs out. My grandpa did this his whole life I do not think his chickens ever had worms.

Sphinx, I think there's a good chance you could still have your little chick for a while, even with the leg being like that. The office I work at used to be located where we could have livestock, and one of the hens we kept had a bum leg that she would stump around on. She'd use the elbow joint as her foot, and I think she lived to be about 1.5-2 years old before it gave out and we had to dispatch her. So who knows? Hulksmash could be around for at least a couple of years!

I only worm a couple of times a year. I use Apple Cider Vinegar. I've not had problems. I'm thinking I just do it because people have said they need it..lol..and I do love, love, the DE. So much better than some of the other things people are putting on their chickens.
Poor Hulksmash. I hope it does ok with it's leg a little different than the other.
Lisa, how long are you going to give her baths? Is she eating better? I don't know about your weather there, but we are warm! If it warms up, maybe you could try letting her out to walk around, see how she is. That poor bird has been through a lot in it's short life. I'll say it again, lucky for her that she is with you. You too Shinx.
My two aren't doing as well now. I put them both in a cup together, because the others were just stomping on them like they weren't even there. I think I will know better by tonight if they will make it. I thought they were doing ok, until I went in and saw one on it's side. :( And, one of the others was sitting up against it, and the other weak one had one sitting on it. They can't do that now. They are comfy cozy together. Still waiting to see eyes open.
Oh the other hand, my black EE is making more and more movement, like it's trying to get out of the shell. It peeps at me. Hopefully tonight!
