Silver-laced Orpington sounds beautiful! I'm in Eagle Mountain, so howdy neighbor!I'm in Bluffdale! Anyone in Utah that isn't super far away looking for a roo? I've got a super sweet Silver Laced Orpington that's 8 weeks old that I'm 90% certain is a mister...My neighborhood won't allow me to keep him...
Your BLRW looks beautiful! I'm hoping I get one with that beautiful coloring! How is she doing now?Blast from the past here! I feel bad that I've been MIA for a while. Too much life coming at me, I guess.
For the newbies, I live in Davis county. I used to have acreage and lots of chickens, now I'm in surburbia and have 7 chickens (the legal limit). I have 2 FBCM (though they're both very very geriatric), an olive egger (also geriatric), two easter eggers, three silkies, a super blue egg layer, a buff orpington, blue laced red wyandotte, a black silkie showgirl, and a barnvelder.
The beautiful black frizzle I hatched in April started crowing yesterday (oh, did I not count him? silly me!View attachment 1856100 View attachment 1856101 ). I can't keep roosters. Anyone want him? One of the partridge silkies is looking very suspiciously boyish to me too.
Did you end up hatching in September? I have six babies arriving USPS the first week of October. I'd love to hear how your fall babes fared!I am in Mt Pleasant. For all you wonderful Utah chicken lovers, I have 2 questions:
1) Do any of you raise buff Sussex chickens?
2) Is it getting to late in the year to hatch eggs? (It is mid September now)
Thanks for your help.
Yep..about 50 degrees here in East Millcreek, Salt Lake..wish the sky was back to at least this clear..you’d think the rain would’ve cleared it, but..nope!I am in the Provo Utah area. Anyone else in my state as of now?
I turned on my heater this morning. Hah!Yep..about 50 degrees here in East Millcreek, Salt Lake..wish the sky was back to at least this clear..you’d think the rain would’ve cleared it, but..nope!
Buff sussex? I have two Speckled..Did you end up hatching in September? I have six babies arriving USPS the first week of October. I'd love to hear how your fall babes fared!
I have two Sweeter Heaters, their largest, they helped me transition the 5-6 week olds last May when it was still so cold out to the big coop. They really work very well, and can double as a brooder heater. They are infrared.Hi all!
Is this the often-referenced Utah Thread???
Wanted to introduce myself. I live out in Eagle Mountain (City Center) and will be a first time chick mom come October.
I wanted breeds that would do okay with Utah's hot summers and cold winters, were friendly, okay in confinement, and would give me colorful eggs (hoping to sell extras to neighbors since I live alone). My main motivation for getting chickens was actually to use their manure in my garden but I know they're also pretty fun backyard pets.
I ordered an Austra White, Blue-Laced Red Wyandotte, two Easter Egger assortments, and two Marans assortments. I'm very excited for all of them!
I ordered (and already received) the Formex Snap Lock coop. I got the automatic door, also. https://www.mypetchicken.com/catalo...Lock-Chicken-Coop-Up-to-8-chickens-p1269.aspx
I'm building a 10'x15' run. The coop will be inside the run, raised up a couple of feet so they can hang out under it if they want. The chickens will have to stay inside the run since I don't want them eating up my garden!
One big question I have is how to transition them safely outside once they're feathered out. That's at about six weeks? It will be mid-November then, and I would really rather not run an extension cord out to the coop if I don't have to. I do have a garage I can use as a "halfway house." Average temperatures here in November are 51/21.
