Utah!

Oh yes! She will go out everyday for awhile, and I am feeding her that higher protein food while she is out....and some mealworms. We will see if it helps. Only catch is the weather, do not know how long she can stay out today, it is supposed to get ugly later.

Cynthia---just what you need, MORE chicks! HAHA! better get some fuzzy bum pics on here for us

Hey there Slvrphoenix! Like the new name
smile.png

Thank you. That girl looks a little mad at being left out.

I just finished hatching some eggs out for a friend. Out of 12 eggs three hatched. Only 6 were fertile. 2 gave up before lock down so only 4 made it to lock down. 3 eggs hatched. One of the chick was walking fine but now it can't keep its legs under herself. And keeps falling over and cant stand up. I think she got ran over to many times. Is there anything we can do or should we just cull her out. They were hatched on Saturday and Sunday

Phoenix---For sure. She paced around that coop at dusk and really wanted back in. But this morning---pacing in the run, seemingly wanting out. I am waiting for that egg, she usually lays between 6 -7 am, it almost 8. I think staying outside last night where it was dark vs. in the coop with the light on til 830 pm threw her off, because she was on that rail trying to sleep by 7. It is funny how the light hours affect them so much.

woops just saw that second post! That is terrible! Culling those tiny babies is the worst thing ever. Sorry to hear that :( Maybe you could try the glass thing like Cynthia said?

Ya just like kids change there routine and it messes there whole schedule up.
Glass thing? must of missed that post

I've had them lay with their legs like that too. I put them in a shallow short glass..paper towel in the bottom and prop their head up on a thick part of the towel, to hold the head up. Ok, did that make sense?

Lisa..she sat there to poop on your porch..chickens get even! J/K! I don't think they do. Glad she got put back in..you want that egg anyway. :p
Maybe she can go out again tomorrow. ? You can't have her pecking on those blues coming your way!

Well, it looks like bothe the chicks are going to make it. I've bandaged together the one chicks legs and he is up and walking that way--was nearly there by himself without the bandage, so I think a few days of the bracing will see him through. The other is walking around just fine. Both are in the brooder with their hatchmates now and everyone looks pretty healthy. The last four eggs were a no-go, which doesn't surprise me considering the humidity drop. No sounds out of them at all. So the final total on the hatch is 8. Now I just have to figure out what to do with them!

Good job!

Now, keep them for a while..and take your pick! To keep. :)

Heh, I can't keep them! I have a dozen pure BLRW's set to hatch next week, another dozen that will be set tomorrow, and two sets of cream legbar eggs (6 each). I will soon be overrun with chicks!

No, this set will have to be rehomed, despite my kids cooing over the Austrolorp mixes (they really are dang cute)!
