Hi! Glad to have you here! I was where you are last spring, and have learned so much on this site. Fun people, and lots of good advice! Welcome! :welcome

Lisa, if you decide to try and pick a polish from straight run, I have learned that pointy wing feathers are good at the young age. Not the rounded. I just had another chicken friend point that out to me, while I was just going with the faster feathering, and more, it's important to also watch for the pointy end of the long top feathers. Just a thought..will be doing that from now on. Good luck!

Thanks for the help! I better make sure I have this right....the wing tip as a whole more pointed or the actual individual feathers pointed?

of those two EE's I got from you---the one with the more rounded wing as a whole (the brownish one) is getting a red comb already. The little fat one had more wispy pointed wingtips and she still looks like a girl so it seemed to be the case with these two.

Five little babies out, and they all look very nice! There are three more eggs in there and I can see at least two of them are pipped, but no progress since this morning yet. Hopefully they will do okay.

Meanwhile, I have a killer case of what feels like the flu.

It's been going through everyone at work like wildfire, so I hope you all are doing well cause this is a miserable one. Wouldn't wish it on anyone. Haven't felt this sick in a very long time. (can I get a little more cheese with that whine?) Everytime I go to look at the baby chicks in the incubator, I take about 10 minutes to get myself back off the floor. The floor is very comfortable right now. Good floor. Nice floor. Floor good, standing bad. Ugh.

I'm also sittin ghere waiting for the mailman to bring my cream legbar eggs from Boykin. What is the matter with this mailman? Doesn't he know he is supposed to stop here first thing in the morning when I have eggs coming?

So the mailman finally came with the eggs, and this is what the post office so kindly did to my rather expensive cream legbar eggs-- so sad. Three are completely smashed. Two are cracked down a ways toward the bottom. And two look like they might be useable, assuming they don't have too much bacteria growth from being coated with a thick layer of egg yolk. I should just give up on shipped eggs and order chicks. I'm so upset about this. I was totally looking forward to these eggs for days now.

corvidae, I don't mind the whining, at least. I have to whine every so often in order to feel better. And being sick really is the pits. Hope you're feeling better soon! I've been going through some unpleasant mystery symptoms, but I don't think it's a bug. My guess is that it's a cross between stress and switching some medication. Sure has messed me up good. Guh.

That is horrible! And USPS employees wonder why their jobs are getting cut-----Fedex and UPS just seem to have it down a little better, at least when we have had deliveries. Our mailperson is not on the ball at all. Hope I am not offending anyone on here if they work at the post office.

Donna I feel so bad for you. THose eggs are so expensive. You should call the postmaster, and file a complaint. It would get your mailpersons attention, I bet they are more careful at least on their end from now on.

Red, Donna, hope you guys feel better soon. Ditto on the griping, it feels good to vent sometimes, I do not mind at all, I am interested in the ongoings of my chicken friends' lives! Remember--'as the egg turns'---lol We have our own little soap opera.

Donna If the eggs make you feel bad---look at the chicks. That is the happy place :)
