Utah!

Ok, just braved the rain to get pictures.

I'm bummed because 4 of my 5 blrw are cockerels. :( I can pretty much guarantee I'm right on that.

Here's some pics of (mainly) the lavs. Notice the BLRW in the background- it's a couple days younger, and very obviously a boy.

(the one on the right was the one that was sooooo big in the beginning)

Again, huge one on the right. If I was to predict a boy of either, it'd be that one.

See, the right one's comb is a bit bigger, but there's no wattles at all, and the combs are significantly less developed than my BLRW chicks.

I have some chicks that I hatched out Jan.27 Not sure of the gender. But they are in the coop. With all the chicken math going on here we have to get rid of some of these.

I saw those. I have to admit it makes for a very tempting offer- having them be that far along. I think at least four of those chicks are boys.

I'm starting eggs on Tuesday. Going to try and get 7 FBCM. Left an email for River Rock Family Farms, but haven't heard back, so I guess i'll try calling them tomorrow.

I'm going to start another batch on April 12. Trying to decide what kind. Thinking maybe doing either coronation sussex or SLW. Or maybe some of each? Or maybe get a speckled sussex in there?

Think your right. Unfortunately. If no one picks them up. We will just have to send them to freezer camp.
What is FBCM?

Oh, sorry. I hate it when I see acronyms I don't know. FBCM= French Black Copper Marans. They lay a chocolate brown egg. I bought an adult hen a couple years ago, and in the 18 months I owned her, I only got about 14 eggs. I'd love to get some young pullets and have them for their great production times.

FBCM's are the next ones I want to add at some point....they are so pretty, the feathers in the sun..., and those chocolate eggs are just amazing! Did you decide if you are going to keep a rooster with those Sphinx? If so, I would love to buy eggs from you next spring :) Or chicks :) Then there are those cream legbars hatching ......boy I hope those are around next spring~!

I have sworn a solemn oath not to buy more chicks until A) I know how many I am rehoming due to roosterness or B)something else happens to reduce my flock size, INCLUDING any more feather eating, then someone will get evicted......or lastly C) Next spring (I will have four hens retiring.)
Chicken math got the best of me, and it is not even Easter yet. Last Easter we got our first 4 chickens and promised we could get no more until Easter this year. haha......

Oh, I found an amazing home, they'll go to a home who won't eat them, only as pets, they'll have a full 200ft by 100ft fun that's completely fenced in! They also get a huge 10 by 15ft coop...I also adore Rosco...but I'm keeping a handful of my chickens, so I won't be with a total loss, I'll keep 20 or so of them, but we're moving a little closer into town because of my mom's new store, so we'll have less land. Thanks

You do have a lovely flock, Whittni. I hope you can find a good home for them. I think it may be difficult to find someone willing to take that many chickens, especially with 7 roosters in the group. Hopefully you find a great animal lover though.
