Also, I don't know if any of you are into gardening, but I thought I'd toss this out just in case. I have a bunch of extra adirondack blue potatoes, some chocolate cherry tomato seeds, some cool yellow heirloom tomatoes, and some purple broccoli. I'd love to trade them for something.

i love gardening too but do not have anything to trade. i planted a ton of rainbow swiss chard, that stuff grows all season long and you just keep picking it. two of the 3 plants i planted last year are still alive. it will grow in hot weather to freezing weather. i love the stuff and the chickens and the rabbit love it too lol

Yeah that swiss chard is really good stuff. Sphinx, let me look and see what I have to trade (I have to find all my seeds, ha) So just vegetables/edibles, right? Or are you open to flowers?

Hey, does anyone have any adult hens they would be willing to sell me? I am looking for two hens, around a year old. People at work are wanting to buy my eggs and I'm ending up with none to feed my kids! I'd like to get hens that lay colored eggs--either dark brown (like Wellsummers or Marans) or some variation of greens or blues, but they don't have to be purebred hens or anything. And at least one could be a white egg layer, since I don't have any hens that lay white at all. I could probably get hens on KSL, but mostly those seem to be chicks or older hens that aren't laying much anymore.

The only problem I see with getting adult hens is sometimes when you interrupt a flock by adding new "girls" everyone stops laying for a while. It doesn't always happen but when it does it really throws a kink in the works. Then you have no eggs. This happened to me last summer. I'd go to Cal-Ranch and get some pullets. People only want to buy the cute day old chicks so they have a bunch of black sex links that are already feathered. And for the baby chick prices. It's like getting a 3 week head start for free!

Does anyone have any Maran chicks?

so some bad news. my pencil got pecked too hard and now has a big open wound on the back of her head and neck

she is acting fine, i found her hidden behind the straw bales in the run. her in the little orp are now in their own cage. she is acting fine but the wound does not look so good. i cant wrap it so i put some cream on it and am watching her close. things were going so well. i now feel like a idiot. please send good thoughts and prayers if you would

Brad, what kind of cream? I use Neosporin on my chicks and chickens..great for keeping infections away..sorry, those big girls faked you out for a min.

it was neosporin. i feel so bad i should of known better
