Utah!

Sphinx, I'm glad we got sunshine today, just in time for your egg hunt! I went for a walk in it today and it felt very nice.

Thanks Sphinx! I am excited too. Red--- cute baby pics!
Cynthia---these are the ones that were at 67 degrees all night. Crazy huh! The ones to go in lockdown tonight (4) also were in with those, got so cold, but candled and looked alive so I am hopeful. I think they will be behind too so and there are no pips so I will hopefully get these hatched by tonight and lockdown the remaining 4 tomorrow. I lost another chick a bit ago----it was upside down, head in the wrong end. It quit breathing, i took it out and it had a big sac of fluid on its head so it had something wrong with it....it was deformed looking. Probably that cold night did not help...
So out 7 eggs total----I messed one up yesterday, then all 6 remaining were going this morning, 1 hatched, 1 quit a bit ago 4 left to go. Crossing fingers

Then 4 more to hatch in a few days hopefully.....all eggs that got cold....all Blue Wyandottes. The one that hatched this morning is getting really cute. Tail looks girlish, it is sticking up there...so hopeful!

Cute coloring. It has dark spots right under the eyes so it makes his eyes look big

That is going to be a pretty blue hen..thinking it's a girl too!! :)

What a day! I made it through my first hatch (mostly). Got two running around the brooder, 3 more are about done. Whew! The ones running around look really healthy, speedy little legs already, really perky and not sleeping much. Hope they all make it through the night, then I will relax. Will get a good look at them in the morning and see what my guesses are on gender.

Red if you still are interested in any I am headed to Hogle Zoo next Saturday :) Would be glad to meet you somewhere. Just let me know. I will post a group pic tomorrow :D :D I should have the other four eggs hatched by Wednesday if you want even newer ones and those make it. If any body else is interested let me know. Otherwise will KSL them in a couple days, a few bucks each to go toward my ever growing feed budget lol! Then onto the BLRW from Donna. Sheesh I hope the bator stays plugged in now  Those will hatch around the 21-22. I am hoping I will be getting enough practice to have a really good hatch with those big brown Marans eggs! I will cry if I lose any of those!

Cynthia--I see why you want to be done. This is stressful. I am not getting anymore eggs either, not this year. I think it is fun to try it, but I could not hatch them all the time, I have a new respect for you, Donna, and Sphinx, anybody else incubating their own. It is really hard to lose one, I did not do too well with that part. I am glad I did not throw them out, so grateful several of you told me to keep trying. Good thing I was on here to get some advice! Thank goodness for good chicken friends on BYC!

Congratulations, Lisa! They are sooooooo cute!

I'm hoping to set new eggs on Thursday at my 1st grader's school. So, my eggs due to hatch Tuesday better be hatching on time.

Hot dang! I'd love to meet up and buy a couple off you. I'll make sure that I'm free that day, especially since this will be a lot easier than driving up to Brigham City or Logan or somewhere (which I was prepared to do) And all in the name of chickens..............oi

There are good reasons why I refuse to get an incubator. Other than the obvious possibility of becoming overrun with chicks, I think it very likely that I'd become obsessed with the eggs and lose my head. Knowing what to do when there's a problem is not always my forte.

Wait til you see #2. I think its cuter than #1. It has white around its eyes and look like a skunk :) I will get with you in a few days then with pics then you can pick out what you like :) it will be fun to meet you! We are going to do my sons bday party at the zoo so I will let you know what time when we figure it out. The weather looks crappy so I hope he still has fun :)

Sphinx, good luck with your upcoming babies! What kind are you getting ready to set? I can't remember. Can't wait to see your newbies this week!

Happy Easter everybody, hope your day is fun tomorrow. Enjoy the sun!

Lisa, I have:
2 bcm
3 lavender ameraucanas
(the mom is definitely lav am. They were separated into breed only pens 1.5 weeks before I got the eggs, so the dad *may* be lav am, but may not. I'm betting that they are- I'm guessing the moms don't bother hanging on to the rooster juice for long if they're still getting attention from a rooster)
1 mutt. Mom is lav am/bcm split, and dad is unknown. It's a beautiful lighter olive egg. I'm really excited to see how it comes out.

I candled the eggs last night, which would be midway through day 18. The two bcm look like they're still 1-2 days behind the others. Weird, huh? I saw movement in all six though!

Incubating eggs has messed with my head a little bit. I feel vaguely guilty eating eggs now because I see them and think of potential chicks. Even if they're not fertile eggs

Hahaha Sphinx! I've had the same thought a couple of times when collecting eggs from my girls. "Hmm, these are fertile. Wonder what they'd look like if I hatched them?......."

Lisa, I woke up this morning and remembered that I'm getting chicks from you on Saturday. Made me excited! It will be good to meet you, too. Then I will have met you, Sphinx, Hector, and birdman. How awesome is that? Oh, and even if it's rainy at the zoo, you might still have fun (I hope your son does, too) The last time I was at the zoo was a year ago, and it was gray and rainy out. There were hardly any people and the animals seemed more lively when they saw us. I kind of can't blame them, though. I know what it's like to wait around on a boring day for the entertainment to show up

And Happy Easter!
