Utah!

Check this out! My Icelandics came today...my husband and I just laughed for the longest time when we saw this egg..our son says...no waaay! I guess the hen decided to make it easy on herself.

That's crazy! Are you going to set that egg? I've read others posts who have said they won't set an odd shaped egg. Will it make it harder for a chick to hatch out of it? Or maybe easier? :)

Sasha..lol, I have to set it! I hope I'm not going to hurt the chick though. :(

My son has been asked that question a lot lately, where would you like to go? He just says, where ever the Lord wants me. :))

We had another son that actually said that if he were to go out of the country, he would like to go to Australia, and if he was to stay in the country, he would like to go to New England. He had gone to Maine to visit an Uncle once before his mission. He stepped off of a curb, and said as he looked around, I wouldn't mind serving a mission here. Guess where he went? Close, Boston Ma. Pretty cool ey? He served in New England. It was a Spanish Speaking Mission. Came home, went to UVU,..called UVSC back then, met a real nice Hispanic girl. They married, and now have 6 kids! Her dad was a Bishop when they lived in Mexico City. Pretty active family.

There's a bit of family history. I have lots of stories, because I have lots of kids! lol..

Well, I have 5 new baby Silkies. They were the ones for the Hatch a long. 5 out of 6 that went into lock down. Not too bad.

My new bator tracking number from Fedex says that my bator will be here next Thurs.! That's too long! I'll keep checking, maybe it will change. :)

Ok, everyone..only if you want to. Go to the Mother's Day Hatch A Long thread, and vote for my grnadson picture! I say my grandson, because it is already getting more votes than the other one I posted. The voting goes on until Mon. Pleeeeze.........it's the first picture.

Congrats on the hatch! Cannot wait to see :)

I lucked out today, a chicken friend here in town went to QCU in Paul, got some blue orp chicks, and brought me back 6 more Marans eggs ! Fun! Hope I have better luck this time. They are so oval, it is hard to tell which end goes up. I cannot see air cells becuase they are so dark! So maybe I roll these on their sides to be safe....any ideas on this guys? Truly I cannot tell on two. The other four I think I have it right. They are lighter because the hens are toward the end of their cycle, a little smaller, but from the same hens, so hoping that they may hatch a little easier. :fl

Happy Mother's Day to all you cute moms out there! And to the Dad's that support them and are willing to play "mom" when needed. Hope you have a great day tomorrow!

I've had eggs like that! Look for a wrinkle in one of the ends, or a wavy look, that would be the pointy end. Maybe you will luck out and see this on them.

Happy Mother's Day to you too cute girl!

Wow, that Icelandic egg is wild. I have to admit I wouldn't set it, nor would I have sent it. I personally don't set oddly shaped eggs because I worry they won't turn well.

Cynthia, I'm sure your eggs are fine- you're right, hens do get off their nests for a while each day, and I've heard of much bigger disasters than 2 hours off, and still hatching just fine. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you though.

Today my daughter and I did a fused glass class. I made what will be a bowl. I tried to do a really artistic, stylized peacock. If it turns out, I'll post a picture of it when it's fired.

I also helped a friend move today. She admitted she almost called me last night. She found a chick in her yard last night! When she saw my chicks today (aged 1 week and 4 weeks), she said it was in between sizes from those two. I guess she carried it around to her neighbors, trying to figure out who it belonged to. Finally found the owner, but they were at the last house she tried. If they hadn't claimed it, I would've gotten a new bird. LOL

Lisa, so jealous of your new marans eggs!!

Nice day out today--I was actually off work last night for a change, so I got to go outside after torturing myself with the Insanity workout and collapse in the chicken area. My boys let all the juveniles out (and there are a LOT of them) to play while we were sitting back there relaxing. What a mob scene. The Cream Legbars got ticked because the Breda were getting in their way, so they started sticking out all their feathers and chasing them off. Looked like a rodeo. Giddyup, Little Breda. Then the big girls got irked because the juvies were out and they started squawking like a fire alarm, so we cooped up the juvies and let out the big girls. No sooner were they out than they started digging crater-like holes everywhere searching for bugs. Almost lost my 5-year-old son in one of those holes. Gonna have to fill those back in.

And now I am back at work. (sigh) Don't have another day off until Wednesday.

We got two new goats tonight!! Sugar our Saanen had twins, a boy and a girl.. I'll get a picture tomorrow.. it was too dark tonight in the barn for the cell phone camera.. will take out the real camera tomorrow..

So....insanity workout, then.....insanity workout! lol! Sounds like mayhem at your place, I love it!

Birdguy Congrats !! That is so exciting.....can't wait to see! You will have to tell us what Saneen goats are like too, have not heard of those. Sounds fun at your barn :D

BluJems - Cute curtains - that's a great idea!

Cynthia - I'm sure your eggs will be fine.

I think they are more resilient to cool than to heat. I let a broody hen brood in her nest box in the hen house because when I tried to move others before, they wouldn't set in the new spot. She left the box for a whole afternoon when it was cold outside because another box had more eggs than hers! Her eggs were COLD to the touch. I collected more often after that so she wouldn't be tempted, but her eggs were fine.

nice to see its been active here today :) i have been busy with yard work today, our sprinkler valves broke so i have been trying to replace them, the manifold, the box, the wire, the timer and a few other things. i am very sore now, hope i can get it done in the next few days. so much yard work and so little time. but happy mothers day to all you mothers!
