Utah!

Sasha, I'm so sorry about your chick. It sounds like there was something not right about her. I'm sure it was some anatomical defect, and nothing you could've done. How many eggs did you set, and how many do you have left?

I candled my eggs yesterday. Only one of my sussex eggs looks good. There's another that I think is an early quitter, but I'm not ready to call it dead yet. The brown and blue eggs look good, and the olive egg is completely opaque. I'm really disappointed with the sussex. I'd really gotten myself excited over getting a couple coronation sussex, so I'm really sad.

Thanks, Sphinx. Clay, the crele boy, cuddled with me for quite a while this morning. He misses his sister. :( I set 23 eggs, 1 was infertile and then 9 (thus far) died. So I have 13 eggs left.

I'm sorry about your sussex. That's no bueno.

I'm so sorry Sasha :( Little chicks are so sweet and innocent and it is so hard to see one die. It broke my heart to read about your little roo trying to snuggle up to her after she passed. Hang in there.

Sasha what are you keeping temps at in your incubator?

The temp bounces between 99-101.5. It's a still air and I guess it's suppose to be at 101 because of that, but I'd rather have it a titch cooler than too warm, and my living room heats up during the day so I turn the temp down in the morning to about 99 so it can't heat up much more than the desired 101 for still air.

I am so thrilled. I moved my medium sized chicks outside today! That means that I cut the number of chickens in my front room by 50%

I got the chicken tractor back from my BIL/SIL (they borrowed it last summer) so I had a place to put them. I still have to go check on them and make sure they stayed in the box area (doubtful).

My poor BCM cockerel (?) is so unfortunate looking right now. It's like his fluff is falling out, and his feathers are slow to come in. His sister (?) is bigger, but much more feathered in.

Sphinx not too much doubt on that boy eh? Poor guy he just needs some time lol I love that tractor, perfect for your little ones!

Sasha---sounds like everything should work. Hope they all hatch!

Looks male to me :( Looks like the pics Sphinx posted of her boys yes? You have had a couple turn out to be boys right? Or am I thinking of somebody else---seems like a BR and another one were looking like boys of yours. Going to be fun at your place at sunrise!

Anybody have good egg recipes? I have been surfing and collecting egg recipes from all over the web. Meat is getting ridiculously expensive, so we are trying to make meals with eggs more often. Even just interesting ideas of what to add to eggs. So I was thinking maybe I wouldpost a few good ones as I try them if you guys were interested. We are getting toward the later part of chick season so we need stuff to talk about lol
